prayer requert I L S A

We rejoice with you in your sister's hunger to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, for this is a holy and beautiful desire that God Himself places in the heart that seeks Him more deeply. We join with you in bringing her before the Father and we ask together in Jesus' name that God will fill her to overflowing according to His perfect will.

We want to gently share that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Your request did not mention His name, and we desire that your sister's seeking be firmly founded on faith in Him. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And scripture declares in Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If she has not yet fully trusted in Jesus for the forgiveness of her sins, we encourage her first to repent and believe that Jesus died for her sins and rose again, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. When we turn to Christ in this way we are sealed with the promised Holy Spirit as Ephesians 1:13 teaches, and Romans 8:9 reminds us that if anyone doesn't have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

The baptism with the Holy Spirit is God's gracious work by which He immerses us into the body of Christ and empowers us for holy living and witness. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body in 1 Corinthians 12:13, and Jesus promised in Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me. On the day of Pentecost Peter preached in Acts 2:38 Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Father delights to give this gift to His children who ask Him, for Luke 11:13 says If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him. We encourage your sister to ask with a sincere heart, with faith and obedience, seeking not merely an experience but seeking Christ Himself, to know Him and to be made more like Him and to be empowered to serve Him.

We pray together for her now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this sister and for the desire You have stirred in her to be filled with Your Holy Spirit. We ask that You would draw her ever closer to Jesus, wash her in His blood, and confirm in her heart that she belongs to Him. Pour out Your Spirit upon her, baptize her and fill her anew, cleanse her, empower her, and produce in her the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness and self control. Lead her into all truth, give her boldness to be a witness for Christ, and use her life for Your glory. Help her to walk daily in Your Word, in prayer and in fellowship with other believers who love Your truth. We ask that Your will be done in her life and that she would be strengthened to live a life that honors You. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Thank you for bringing your sister to us in prayer. It is a beautiful thing that she is hungry to know the Holy Spirit more deeply, and that you care enough to lift her up.

We love how Scripture describes the Spirit as our Helper and Comforter who stays with us. His work is so balanced, He brings power to live for Jesus, He guides us into truth, and He grows His fruit in us like love, joy, peace and patience so we become more like Christ. Wanting to be filled with the Spirit is really about wanting more of that whole life with Him, not just a moment but a daily yielding to Him.

One gentle way to walk with her in this is to keep praying together and encourage her to talk with a trusted pastor or mature believer in her own church. They can answer her questions personally, pray with her, and help her keep growing in prayer and in God's Word as she seeks Him.

We are praying with you for her.

Father, we lift up the sister of ### to You. Thank You for the hunger You have placed in her heart for You. Fill her afresh with Your Holy Spirit, lead her into Your truth, and form Christlike character in her life. Give her wisdom and give ### encouragement as they seek You together. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a gracious and holy desire which your sister expresses, and we rejoice to bring it before the throne of grace with you. To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is not a mere outward rite, for the Holy Spirit teaches us not to magnify outward rites, but Christ. His blessed office is to take of the things of Christ and show them unto us, and where He works, Christ is glorified.

We would ask with the Apostle, has your sister believed on the Lord Jesus Christ with a true and living faith? For the promise is, did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? As long as we know only water baptism, we have not yet known the fullness of that baptism which is of the Spirit. It is by faith in Jesus, who alone is Savior, that the Spirit is given, and He keeps sweet company with Christ. He never comes to make us think much of ourselves, but to make us think much of Jesus.

Let us pray then that she may daily receive Him as she believes, for we must have the Holy Spirit. Without Him there is no life and no power. A holy life is the workmanship of the Holy Spirit, and only as He dwells within us as the source and force of our life can we walk according to the Gospel. We pray that the Lord would give her a tender conscience not to grieve the Holy Spirit by unbelief or unholiness, for He is grieved when we walk not according to Christ, and He is pleased to make even the narrow heart of man His palace and continual abode.

We will entreat the Lord for her, that He who has promised to give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him would pour Him out abundantly upon her, that she may know Him not as an influence but as a divine Person dwelling in her, teaching her, quickening her, and helping her to pray in the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Spirit. For praying in the Holy Spirit is praying in His power, and there is no other power by which we prevail.

May the Father glorify the Son, and may the Holy Spirit glorify Christ in her heart, revealing to her the fullness that is in Him, and sealing her faith by His own impress. May she hear His voice today and harden not her heart, but receive with meekness the blessing which God delights to give.

We join our prayers with yours that she may be filled with the Spirit, made strong with divine strength, and kept holy to the praise of Jesus, in whom alone is salvation. Amen.
