Prayer points for our country

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up our nation in this critical season. The upcoming general election stirs anxiety, division, and even fear among many, but we know that true peace does not come from political leaders, parties, or policies, it comes from the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. We declare that our hope is not in man, but in the Lord who reigns over all nations. "Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance" (Psalm 33:12 WEB).

Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment for every citizen as they prepare to cast their votes. May Your Holy Spirit guide hearts to choose leaders who fear You, who uphold justice, righteousness, and truth. We ask that You expose corruption, deceit, and manipulation in the electoral process, and let integrity prevail. "When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan" (Proverbs 29:2 WEB). Raise up godly men and women who will lead with humility, compassion, and a commitment to serve rather than be served.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of division, strife, and hatred that seeks to tear our nation apart. We pray against violence, intimidation, and unrest during this election season. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard the hearts and minds of Your people (Philippians 4:7 WEB). We ask that You soften hardened hearts and break down walls of prejudice, tribalism, and political extremism. Unite us as one people under Your lordship, for You are the only One who can truly heal our land.

We also pray for the Church in our nation. May we be salt and light, standing firm on Your Word and speaking truth in love. Give us boldness to be peacemakers, to bridge divides, and to demonstrate the love of Christ to all, regardless of political affiliation. Let us not be swayed by the spirit of the age, but let us be anchored in Your eternal truth. "If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14 WEB).

Father, we confess that our nation has strayed from Your ways. We have embraced sin, idolatry, and moral decay. We have turned away from Your commandments and pursued our own desires. We repent on behalf of our nation and ask for Your mercy. Forgive us, Lord, and restore us. Let this election be a turning point, a time when we collectively turn back to You and seek Your face.

We pray for protection over our nation during this time. Shield us from external threats, internal strife, and any plans of the enemy to sow chaos. Let Your angels encamp around our borders, our cities, and our polling places. We declare that no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17 WEB), and that Your purposes will prevail.

Above all, Lord, we pray that Your will be done in our nation. May Your kingdom come, and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We surrender our desires, our agendas, and our fears to You, trusting that You are in control. Give us the grace to trust You even when the outcome is uncertain, for You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28 WEB).

We pray for revival in our land. Let this election be a catalyst for spiritual awakening, where hearts are turned toward You, lives are transformed, and Your glory covers our nation. May the name of Jesus be exalted in every corner of our country, and may many come to know You as their Lord and Savior.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for inviting us to pray with you for your nation as this election approaches. Moments like these can stir anxiety and division, but we remember that the deepest peace of a land is not crafted by any campaign but flows from the Prince of Peace Himself. While we take the political process seriously, we also rest in the truth that God remains sovereign over every outcome, and He hears the prayers of His people. One practical way to anchor that hope might be to gather a few fellow believers, perhaps before or after a worship service, to pray together briefly and intentionally for the election, not as a political rally but as a quiet reminder that your ultimate confidence is in Christ alone.

We will join you in asking for a calm and fair process, for wisdom given to every voter and every leader, and for a spirit of respect that reflects the love of Jesus. And we pray for you, too, that you would personally experience His peace guarding your heart and mind, so you can be a steady, calming presence in your own community.

Father, we lift this country to You. Grant peace and safety in the days ahead. Guide hearts and decisions toward what is just and merciful. Silence discord and raise up leaders who will govern with integrity. May Your kingdom come and Your will be done here, as it is in heaven. We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The desire for peace in our land as we approach a general election is well and right. Yet take heed that you do not cry “Peace, peace,” where there is no peace. What peace can there be to a people whose rebellions are so many? The world’s peace is often a lull of stupefaction, a false calm wrought by the enemy of souls, that men may sleep quietly down to destruction. True peace is not a mere truce from outward strife, but reconciliation with the Most High God; it is the fruit of the blood of Jesus whispered within the conscience.

He is our peace. You must go to the Cross if you desire peace concerning your sins, for He is our peace, not your prayers, not your repentance, nor any work of your hands, but Christ alone. He has made peace by the blood of His cross, and this peace is God’s own gift, unchangeable and eternal. The war between the holy God and His offending creatures is over in the case of every blood-washed sinner; not suspended by a truce, but ended for ever with a peace which passeth all understanding. Do you possess this peace? Search thine own heart by the light of the Word and of the Holy Spirit, and when thou knowest thyself to be agreed with God, through Him who is our peace, hesitate not to draw near with holy confidence. Without this inward settlement, all your prayers for national tranquillity will be but a setting of the house in order while the foundations are unsound.

Let preparation be joined to supplication. If we acted aright, we would never come even to the hearing of a sermon without prayer; how much more when a nation prepares for its solemn duties? But the preparation that avails is not a frantic accumulation of political schemes, but a bowing of the heart before the Prince of Peace. Preparation for every blessing begins in the soul, confession of sin, earnest searching, and simple faith in Jesus. The work of preparation must be done on this side of death; and if we would see peace visit our land, let us see to it that we ourselves are made meet for that blessing through the Author and Finisher of our faith.

Pray, then, that the Lord would give His own peace, even that “peace, peace” which Isaiah speaks of, the perfect peace of the stayed mind. In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they, our nation, our rulers, our fellow-citizens, may find that keeping too. But do not seek peace first; seek Christ first, and peace will come next. He that has Christ has great peace, and nothing shall offend him. To do the will of Jesus, this is rest, even in the midst of thronging duties and the clamour of an election. May the God of peace bless our country with that peace which is His own child, unruffled and divine, and may He grant us grace to walk humbly with Him until the day dawn and the shadows flee away.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask prayer for peace in the nation as an election approaches, but understand what peace the Gospel truly brings. The peace of Christ is not the world's peace. He Himself said, "I leave peace with you, My peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth." The world's peace is often a conspiracy of robbers agreeing together, a quiet that harbors rebellion against God. When the diseased part is not cut off, the whole body perishes. True peace is first peace with God, ending the war of sin through the blood of His Cross. Have you made your own feet ready with this preparation? For the Apostle commands us to have our feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. And what is this preparation? It is a most virtuous life, a readiness to walk worthily, making a straight path for the Lord. You cannot pray effectively for the land while your own footing is unsure.

Do not be backward to embrace this peace with God. If we are at war with the devil, we are at peace with God; but if we are friends with the world, we become His enemies. Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, having on the breastplate of righteousness. The good tidings of peace have been proclaimed to you. Give these good tidings a ready way by a pure conduct. A nation that forgets God, that makes laws contrary to His nature, is like them that built the tower; their evil peace must be ended by a good discord, a division between light and darkness. Pray instead that God would provoke this nation to jealousy, that a foolish people would embrace the wisdom from above, and that many would be cut to the heart and reconciled to the Father.

The foundation of every good thing is this peace. Without it everything is useless. Let your prayer be first this: that the God of love and peace would be with you, and through you, that souls would be snatched from the mutinous crowd. The warfare we wage casts down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. This alone brings health to the body politic, when the peace that passes earthly pacts comes to dwell in the hearts of men. Pray not for a mere calm before men, but for that peace which the angels announced, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men." That is the reconciliation of heaven and earth. Seek that, preach that, and then you have prepared the way for a peace no election can give or take away.
