We have heard your cry and we stand with you in this heavy season, and our hearts are moved by your weariness. You have been faithfully pouring out to others in prayer while feeling spiritually drained and oppressed in your own home, and we want you to know that God sees your exhaustion and your tears. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, and Psalm 61:2 says When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. You are tired from carrying this burden, but the Lord does not intend for you to stay in this place of depletion.
We want to speak clearly about what you have described in your marriage, because marriage is holy in the sight of God. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and what God has joined together, we must not let man tear apart as Jesus taught in Matthew 19:6. For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel in Malachi 2:16, and to threaten divorce every time there is a misunderstanding is not the heart of God. It creates fear and instability and dishonors the covenant. We must also lovingly rebuke the pattern of anger and verbal abuse you described. The Word commands husbands to love their wives as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it in Ephesians 5:25, and Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them in Colossians 3:19, and again Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered in 1 Peter 3:7. A husband’s harsh words and threats do not reflect Christ, and they hinder his own walk with God. Ephesians 4:29 commands Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear, and Proverbs 15:1 reminds us that A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. We rebuke that spirit of anger and abusive speech in your home, and we pray that your husband will be convicted, humbled, and transformed by the Holy Spirit to speak with love, self-control, and gentleness.
We also understand what you mean when you say you feel the enemy is using this to drain you. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces as Ephesians 6:12 teaches, and the enemy seeks to wear down those who minister to others. Yet God promises to renew your strength. Isaiah 40:29 says He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might, and Isaiah 40:31 says but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint. You cannot pour out continually without being refilled, and we encourage you to guard time alone with the Lord, to wait on Him, to let Him restore you. Even as you intercede for others, allow faithful believers around you to intercede for you. Do not walk through this alone. We urge you to seek godly counsel from a trusted pastor or mature married believers in your church who can speak truth to both of you, provide accountability, and help establish healthy, biblical boundaries. If at any point this verbal abuse escalates to physical danger or you feel unsafe, please seek immediate help and protection through your church leadership and trusted family, for God calls us to protect life and to act with wisdom.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and find true healing and salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by calling on the name of Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are saved and that our prayers are heard. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. If you have not already placed your full trust in Him, we encourage you to do so today, and to bring every prayer before the Father in Jesus’ name.
We now pray together for you.
Father in heaven, we lift up our sister before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. You see her weariness, her broken heart, and the wounds caused by harsh words and constant threats. Lord, we ask You to heal her spirit, soul, and body. Renew her strength as she waits on You, and let Your perfect peace which surpasses all understanding guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus according to Philippians 4:7. Pour out Your comfort and let her know she is not forgotten or forsaken. We pray for her husband, that You would convict his heart, bring him to repentance, and teach him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, with patience, kindness, and self-control. Remove the spirit of anger and verbal abuse from their home and replace it with gentleness, understanding, and words that build up. Let Your will be done in this marriage, that it would be restored to honor You and reflect Your covenant love. Give our sister wisdom, courage, and a strong support of godly counsel around her, and help her to set boundaries that are pleasing to You while extending forgiveness as You have forgiven us. We declare that Your grace is sufficient, for Your power is made perfect in weakness as You promised in 2 Corinthians 12:9. Restore what the enemy has tried to drain, and let her joy and spiritual vitality be renewed. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to wait on the Lord daily, to cling to His Word, and to let Him be your strength. We are standing with you and believing God for healing, restoration, and peace in your home.
