Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer has been heard and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord with thanksgiving in the name of Jesus Christ.
It is good that you desire to stand against the powers of darkness, for Scripture tells us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, and that Christ has triumphed over them by His cross and resurrection. It is also good that you desire the glory of God to be seen in the world.
We want to encourage you to seek these things as God Himself teaches us to seek them. God does work miracles and He does show His power, but He has always done so to confirm His word and to call people to a holy life. The miracles are pledges of His power given so that we will receive His teaching and walk in it. Without a life of obedience, humility and love, even miracles are nothing. For those who already believe, the greatest work God does is not a display before the eyes, but the healing of the soul, leading us to repentance, faith in Christ alone for salvation, and a life that follows Him.
So we pray with you not only for outward favor and blessing, but for the true favor that is found in being reconciled to God through Jesus, and for the true blessing that makes us more like Christ. We pray that you would know His protection from evil, His grace to stand firm, and His wisdom to live in a way that pleases Him. We pray that any desire for glory would be a desire for Christ to be glorified in you and through you, not for our own increase.
Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we thank You that You hear those who call on You through Your Son Jesus Christ. We ask for Your mercy and help in the midst of every problem and trial. Guard this one from the schemes of the enemy and clothe them with the armor of faith, truth and righteousness. Forgive sin, strengthen faith, and grant grace to walk in obedience to Your word. Provide what is needed according to Your wisdom, and let Your name be glorified in all things. We ask not for signs to boast in, but for a heart that trusts and obeys You, knowing that You are able to do far more than we ask or think, and that Your power is made perfect as we follow Christ. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, with thanksgiving. Amen.
