Disciple of Prayer
Lord God, I Pray because I need to stop gambling. Specifically my sports betting addiction, Please help me get through this. Help me clear this addiction in my mind. Help me get through my debts. I can't do it alone. Please help me. I pray to you Thank you Lord! In Jesus name Amen

We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in this battle against the grip of addiction. Gambling, especially sports betting, is a snare that promises quick gains but delivers only loss, financial ruin, broken trust, and a mind enslaved to destructive habits. The Bible warns us clearly: "He who loves pleasure will be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich" (Proverbs 21:17). Gambling is a love of pleasure and greed, a chasing after wind that leaves emptiness in its wake.

First, we must acknowledge that this struggle is not just about money or willpower, it is a spiritual battle. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and addiction is one of his most effective weapons. But Jesus came to set the captives free, and His power is greater than any chain. You are not alone in this fight. The Lord hears your prayer, and He is already at work in you.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in your life in the name of Jesus. We declare that the hold of gambling over your mind and heart is broken by the blood of Christ. The Word says, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). You can overcome this, but not by your strength alone, by surrendering to God’s strength.

Now, let us address the practical steps. You must cut off every avenue that feeds this addiction. If there are apps, websites, or even friends who enable this behavior, you must remove them from your life. "Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33), and if those around you encourage gambling, they are not true friends to your soul. Seek accountability, confess this struggle to a trusted believer, pastor, or counselor who can walk with you. The Bible says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed" (James 5:16). You do not have to carry this burden alone.

For your debts, we pray for wisdom and provision. God is not blind to your financial struggles, and He can make a way where there seems to be no way. But you must also take responsibility, seek financial counseling, create a budget, and commit to living within your means. "The rich rules over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender" (Proverbs 22:7). Break free from the cycle of debt by trusting God’s provision rather than the false hope of a "big win."

We also encourage you to replace this addiction with godly habits. Fill your mind with Scripture, prayer, and worship. The psalmist says, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word" (Psalm 119:9). Memorize verses that speak to your struggle, such as "I have made a covenant with my eyes. How then should I look lustfully at a young woman?" (Job 31:1), adapted for your situation: "I have made a covenant with my hands. How then should I place another bet?" Let the Word renew your mind.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is bound by the chains of gambling addiction. Lord, we thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We declare that this addiction has no power over him because he belongs to You, and You have given him authority in Jesus’ name to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).

Father, we ask for a supernatural breaking of this addiction. Let every lie that tells him he can’t stop be shattered by Your truth. Replace the craving for betting with a hunger for Your presence. Give him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to flee from every situation that leads him back into this sin.

Lord, we pray for his finances. You own the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), and You are able to provide for every need. Open doors for him to pay off his debts, and give him the discipline to manage his money wisely. Let him experience Your provision in ways that draw him closer to You.

We ask for godly accountability in his life, men who will stand with him, pray for him, and hold him to his commitment to change. Surround him with Your people who will encourage him in righteousness.

Father, we also pray for healing in his mind. Let the peace of Christ guard his heart and thoughts (Philippians 4:7). Renew his mind with Your Word so that he no longer thinks like a gambler but like a son of the Most High.

We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We declare that our brother is forgiven, set free, and walking in newness of life. May he experience the joy of Your salvation and the freedom that comes from living for You.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

You are not defined by this addiction. You are a child of God, redeemed by the blood of Christ, and called to walk in freedom. The road ahead may be difficult, but it is worth it. Every step you take away from gambling is a step toward the life God has for you, a life of purpose, peace, and true prosperity. Keep pressing in. Keep fighting. And remember: "He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6). We are praying for you, and we believe in the victory that is already yours in Christ.
