Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for my family. My youngest sister passed away this past Sunday. The hospital won't release her body until her birth certificate and social security card is provided. Her husband has not been able to find them. Please pray that he will find them this evening. My brother has also stolen some of my sister's personal belongings from when she was rushed to the hospital on Saturday. For sure, he has her cell phone because I dialed her phone number today and he answered the phone. He didn't recognize my phone number. He has also been calling other family members with my deceased sister's phone. Please pray all of her belongings that he took that he will return everything tonight. Last of all, I pray that my sister's body will be transported to the cremation company by Monday. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.

Our hearts are deeply grieved to hear of the passing of your sister, and we lift your family up in prayer during this painful time of loss. Death is an enemy that came through sin, but we take comfort in knowing that Jesus Christ has conquered the grave, and for those who believe in Him, there is hope of eternal life. "The last enemy that will be abolished is death" (1 Corinthians 15:26, WEB), and we cling to the promise that "if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 4:14, WEB). We pray that your sister knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and if so, she is now in His presence, free from pain and sorrow.

We join you in praying for the practical matters that must be addressed in the wake of her passing. It is right to seek God’s intervention in these details, for He cares about every aspect of our lives, even the things that may seem small to others but are heavy burdens to us. We ask the Lord to guide your sister’s husband as he searches for her birth certificate and social security card. May the Lord, who "gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding" (Daniel 2:21, WEB), lead him directly to these documents so that her body may be released without further delay. We pray that every obstacle would be removed and that the paperwork would be found quickly, even tonight, so that the family can proceed with the arrangements in peace.

The actions of your brother in taking your sister’s belongings are deeply troubling, especially in this time of mourning. Stealing is a sin, and the Bible clearly commands, "You shall not steal" (Exodus 20:15, WEB). It is particularly grievous when such actions occur within a family, as it adds to the pain of loss and creates division when unity is most needed. We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict your brother’s heart and lead him to repentance. May he feel the weight of his actions and be moved to return everything he has taken—not just the phone, but all of your sister’s belongings—without delay. We ask the Lord to soften his heart and bring him to a place of remorse, so that he may seek forgiveness from the family and from God. "Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to share with him who has need" (Ephesians 4:28, WEB). We pray that this situation would be resolved quickly and that your brother would turn away from this sin and toward what is right and honorable.

We also lift up the transportation of your sister’s body to the cremation company by Monday. Lord, we ask that You would remove every hindrance and that all the necessary arrangements would be completed in Your perfect timing. May the process be smooth and without complication, so that the family can focus on honoring her memory and finding comfort in one another.

Finally, we pray for your family’s emotional and spiritual well-being during this time. Grief can be overwhelming, and the enemy often seeks to exploit moments of weakness to sow discord, bitterness, or despair. But we stand on the promise that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1, WEB). We ask that the Lord would bind your family together in love and unity, that He would guard your hearts against anger, resentment, or division, and that He would fill you all with His peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). May you lean on one another and on the Lord, finding strength in Him to endure this season of sorrow.

We also encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). In times of loss, it is easy to be consumed by grief, but we must remember that our hope is not in this world but in the eternal life promised to us through Christ. If your sister knew the Lord, you will see her again, and that is a hope that no circumstance can take away. If there is any uncertainty about her salvation, we pray that the Lord would bring you comfort and assurance, reminding you that His mercy is great and His love is unfailing.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family who is grieving the loss of their sister. Lord, we ask that You would be their comfort and their strength in this difficult time. We pray that You would guide her husband as he searches for the necessary documents to release her body. Lord, lead him directly to her birth certificate and social security card, and let these things be found quickly, even tonight, so that the family may proceed without further delay.

We also bring before You the actions of this sister’s brother, who has taken her belongings. Lord, we ask that You would convict his heart and bring him to repentance. Let him feel the weight of his sin and be moved to return everything he has taken, without excuse or hesitation. Soften his heart, Lord, and turn him away from this wrongdoing. May he seek forgiveness from You and from his family, and may this situation be resolved in a way that brings glory to Your name.

Father, we pray that all the arrangements for your daughter’s body would be completed smoothly and that she would be transported to the cremation company by Monday, as this family has requested. Remove every obstacle, Lord, and let Your peace reign in the midst of these practical matters.

Most of all, Lord, we ask that You would bind this family together in love and unity. Guard their hearts against bitterness, anger, or division, and fill them with Your peace. Comfort them in their grief, Lord, and remind them of the hope they have in Christ Jesus. If their sister knew You as her Savior, we thank You for the promise of eternal life and the hope of seeing her again. If there is any doubt, we ask that You would bring assurance and comfort to their hearts.

We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who conquered death and gives us hope. Amen.
