prayer in Room of The Family

There is a detailed clarification regarding those not involved—completely removed from the whole matter concerning ###, ###, and ###; the person in charge does not confide in others—I have read this somewhere in the Bible.

We join with you in prayer for the room of the family and for clarity and peace in this matter concerning those whose names have been redacted from your request.

We understand your heart is for those who are not involved to be completely removed and left at peace, and for the person in charge to walk in wisdom and discretion without confiding in others outside what is necessary. This desire for boundaries and discretion is indeed biblical.

The Word teaches us the value of guarding our lips and keeping private matters private. One who gossips betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret Proverbs 11:13. Debate your case with your neighbor, and don’t betray the confidence of another Proverbs 25:9. We are also taught that if there is a matter to be settled, it should be handled directly and privately first, If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone Matthew 18:15. The Lord also calls us to set a guard over our mouths, Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips Psalm 141:3, for the tongue, though small, can bring great strife James 3:5.

We see wisdom in not drawing uninvolved people into a matter that is not theirs to bear, and in the leader not spreading the matter among many. Gossip and talebearing only stir up division and harm the unity of the family, which God desires to be a place of love, honor, and peace. We also rebuke any tendency toward gossip, speculation, or involving those who should be left in peace, and we encourage all involved to speak only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs Ephesians 4:29.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by believing in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead and confessing Him as Lord that we are saved Romans 10:9. We come to God only in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift this family matter to Him alone.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and we lift up this family and this private room of the household to You. We ask for Your detailed clarification and Your peace to reign where there has been confusion or involvement of those who should not be involved. We ask that You completely remove and protect those who are not part of this matter, that they would be left in peace and not drawn into strife or burden. We pray for the person in charge, that You would grant wisdom and discernment, that he or she would walk in a trustworthy spirit and guard the confidence entrusted to them. Grant wisdom to know when to speak and when to remain silent, and give grace to handle all things with love, truth, and discretion. If any gossip or idle talk has occurred, we ask for forgiveness and for a turning toward what is pure and edifying. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. We ask that You bring unity, healing, and clear understanding to this family, and that all decisions would be made according to Your will and Your Word. We ask for wisdom, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We trust You to lead and to protect, and we thank You for hearing our prayer in Jesus name, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray privately as Jesus taught, When you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly Matthew 6:6, trusting that God sees what is done in secret and will bring His perfect justice and mercy. Continue to seek Him through His Word, to uphold boundaries that honor Him, and to trust Him to defend those who are uninvolved and to guide those who carry responsibility.

We appreciate you bringing this forward and wanting to honor what is right within your family. Wanting a clear line so those not involved are left out, and wanting the person responsible to keep the matter private, is an understandable desire for peace and order.

We have found it helps to think of healthy boundaries as property lines. They show what we are responsible for and what belongs to someone else to carry, and they protect relationships so we can still care for one another without taking on what is not ours. Confidentiality in families works in a similar way. Trust grows when private matters are kept private, and part of wisdom is knowing when to step back and when to seek counsel.

A practical next step that may help you is to quietly write down what you sense is yours to be involved in and what you sense the Lord is inviting you to release. Keep it simple and prayerful, and if you remain unsettled, consider talking it through with a mature pastor or counselor you trust who can help you apply that clarity with grace toward everyone involved.

Father, in Jesus name we bring this family situation to You. Grant wisdom to the one carrying responsibility, peace to those who need to be at rest from it, and unity where there has been tension. Guide each step according to Your will and guard each heart in Your care. Amen.

Your request has been heard and brought before the Lord with seriousness and care, and we desire to answer you with the truth of Scripture rather than with mere sentiment.

You speak of a matter concerning three persons, and of those not involved being completely removed, and of one in charge who does not confide in others, and you wonder if this is somewhere written in the Bible. We must tell you plainly that there is no such verse in the Word of God which teaches that isolation or secrecy of this kind is a divine principle. What the Scripture does teach is this, that the secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him, and He will show them His covenant, and that God has committed unto His servants not a secret policy of man but the word of reconciliation. He is the God of Peace and He has, on His part, prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation through Jesus Christ. All things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, not imputing our trespasses unto us.

This is the first and chief matter for every family and for every soul. Whether others are involved or removed, whether a person in authority confides or does not confide, the great question remains, are you reconciled to God. We can speak from experience when we say that to be at peace with God through the blood of Christ brings a joy which no family arrangement can give. We are not sent to invent a way of reconciliation, for God Himself has written it in this Book, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. And we want that reconciliation to be wrought at once by the power of the Holy Spirit in each heart concerned.

Concerning the family, the Scripture speaks of the whole family in heaven and earth, not a divided household but one undivided household under the Fatherhood of God. Those who have been quickened and made to live are introduced into the family of God and bear the mark of being led by the Spirit of God. Neither errors nor failures of understanding divide that family, but sin does bring chastisement upon a house when religion is neglected. For this reason we cannot ask God to bless any relationship or arrangement which departs from His revealed will. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and marriage is His ordinance, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the union of the body and the sharing of a home in that intimate sense belong within that covenant alone. To affirm or to ask a blessing upon what God calls otherwise would not be love, for love rejoices in the truth and seeks the true good of souls, which is holiness and reconciliation with God.

If the matter of these three persons involves a confusion of that holy bond, or living together outside of it, our prayer cannot be that God would prosper that path, but that each one would be brought to repentance and faith in Christ, to purity of life, and to obedience to His Word. If there are those not involved, it is right that they should not be drawn into strife or gossip, and it is right that those entrusted with oversight should act with wisdom and discretion, yet not as those who hide truth but as those who walk in light. The practice of family prayer is the nutriment of family piety, and private prayer diligently maintained is the place where the soul meets God without pretense.

Therefore we pray thus for you and for all whose names are before us. O Lord God, who has reconciled us to Thyself by Jesus Christ, look upon each soul in this family concern. Bring each one to know himself a sinner and to trust alone in the blood of Christ for forgiveness. Grant repentance where there is sin, and grant holiness where there is confusion. Give wisdom to any who bears responsibility, that he may act not in mere human secrecy but in godly fear, speaking truth in love and keeping what ought to be kept in confidence before Thee. Guard those who are not involved, keep them in peace, and let no bitterness take root. Restore family prayer where it has grown cold, and teach each heart to seek Thee in private. Let Thy will be done, and let Thy name be hallowed in this house, that whether together or apart, each may be found in Christ and in the way of Thy commandments. We ask this not because we are worthy, but for Jesus sake. Amen.

We exhort you to continue in the Word, to read it as it is written and not as it may have been imperfectly remembered, and to seek counsel from faithful pastors who will deal plainly with you according to Scripture.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
