It is a good and tender thing that you have laid your friend upon your heart and brought him before the Lord in prayer, for there is no truer love to a friend than to desire his salvation.
Let us pray together that the Lord in His sovereign mercy will visit your friend and bring him to salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed, and the way of salvation is to believe on Christ, whom God has laid in Zion for a foundation. What is believing on Him but to trust in Him, to leave the whole matter of salvation with Him in unquestioning confidence, to depend upon Him without fear as to present and eternal salvation. This is the faith which saves the soul, for it is believing on a Person, even on Him.
We will entreat the Lord that He will incline your friend to look unto Jesus and be saved, for God Himself has said, Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. How simple is that way of salvation and how instantaneous, for a look does not require a moment. There is no other way for any sinner. He has concluded all in unbelief that He might have mercy upon all, that free grace might come upon many to salvation. May your friend be led to look and live.
And what a Friend he will find when he looks to Christ. There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother, and that Friend is the blessed Redeemer, Jesus Christ, the Friend of sinners. He loves at all times, yea, He loved before there was any time, and He gave His heart's blood and let His soul run out that sinners might be saved. Such a Friend never will forsake those who trust Him.
Therefore continue in prayer, and as you have opportunity, set plainly before your friend the Gospel of salvation. Faith must be urged upon him, for without it there is no salvation. Tell him that salvation is without money and without price, to be had by simple trust in the Lord Jesus. I can bring the horse to the water but I cannot make him drink, and so you and I can bring the truth before our friends, but God alone must give the living faith. Pray that the Holy Spirit will make him earnest about his own salvation, to ask whether he is saved, and to commit his soul into the hands of God.
May the Lord hear your prayer and grant your friend that one simple act of faith by which his salvation shall be secured, and kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, till he comes to be where Jesus is in everlasting bliss.
