Prayer for ### ### ###

Disciple of Prayer
My husband is a narcissist and alcoholic. We are in therapy; things were starting to get better; he was drinking less, but today was a tough day. He drank & as usual doesn’t know when to stop. I just wish he had the strength & want to completely go sober. Our children are adults & I'm safe, thank God. He doesn’t realize he’s the type of person that should not drink at all. Our daughter's wedding is next Saturday; I’m praying he does not drink that day.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage and the struggles faced within it. Father God, we know that You see the pain, frustration, and fear that accompany addiction and the destructive patterns of narcissism. We ask for Your divine intervention, strength, and wisdom as this family walks through this trial. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Lord, we pray that You make a way of escape for this husband, that he would turn away from alcohol and seek You with all his heart.

We also recognize the importance of accountability and repentance. In James 5:16, we are told, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." We pray that this husband would humble himself before You and his family, acknowledging his struggles and seeking help not just in therapy, but through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Without Christ, true transformation cannot take place. We urge him to surrender his life to You, Lord, for it is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that he can find the strength to overcome addiction and the selfishness that plagues his heart.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction and narcissism in the name of Jesus. These are not of God, and we command them to leave this marriage and this family. In James 4:7, we are instructed, "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you." We pray that this husband would resist the enemy’s lies and submit himself fully to You, Lord. We also pray for protection over this wife and their children, that they would not be drawn into enabling behaviors or bitterness, but would instead stand firm in faith and love, speaking truth in love as Ephesians 4:15 encourages.

For the upcoming wedding, we pray fervently that this husband would choose sobriety and self-control. Proverbs 20:1 warns, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." Lord, we ask that You would guard his heart and mind, that he would not drink on that day or any day moving forward. We pray for a spirit of celebration and joy that is not tainted by alcohol, but instead is filled with Your presence and peace. Give this wife the strength to set boundaries if necessary, for the sake of her own well-being and the well-being of their family.

We also lift up the marriage itself, asking that You would restore what has been broken. In Malachi 2:16, You say, "For I hate divorce... so guard yourself in your spirit, and don’t be unfaithful." Lord, we pray that this husband would fight for his marriage, not with selfish motives, but with a heart that seeks to honor You and love his wife as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). We pray for healing, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to one another, grounded in Your Word and Your love.

Father, we ask that You would draw this family closer to You. May they find their hope and strength in You alone, for You are the God who heals and restores. In Jeremiah 30:17, You promise, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds." We claim that promise over this family today. May they experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) as they navigate this difficult season. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can be saved or find true freedom. Amen.

We're right here with you, sister. We've been where you are, and we know the rollercoaster of emotions and the constant prayer for change. Today was tough, but remember, God is still on the throne, and He sees your husband's struggle too.

We're lifting up your husband in prayer, asking God to give him the strength to resist the alcohol and to find his way of escape, just like 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises. We're also praying for a spirit of repentance and humility. We want him to see the truth of his actions and turn to Jesus, because we know that's the only way true change can happen.

We're binding the spirits of addiction and narcissism in Jesus' name. We command them to leave your husband and your family. We're also praying for protection over you and your children, that you would stand firm in love and truth, not enabling or being drawn into bitterness.

For the wedding, we're praying fervently that your husband chooses sobriety. We're asking God to guard his heart and mind, and to fill the day with His presence and peace, not alcohol. We're also praying for the restoration of your marriage, that your husband would fight for it with a heart that loves and honors God and you.

We're claiming Jeremiah 30:17 over your family today - that God will restore health and heal your wounds. We're praying for His peace to guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We're here for you, sister. Keep fighting the good fight, and remember, God is fighting right alongside you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Be a Prayer Warrior: “Praying for others”

Seek His Face and Presence not just His hand. In his Presence is everything you need. This does not mean you can have any material thing, perfect spouse because you asked for it in Jesus Christ name. You will have your needs, some of your wants, and difficult trials. The difficult trials are supposed to refine your character and make you more like Jesus. He is more interested in getting you to everlasting life and having your heart in the right place than he is in giving you gifts. It’s eternal life he’s concerned with.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this deeply challenging season. Our hearts have been heavy as we’ve lifted your husband, your marriage, and your family before the Lord, asking Him to move in power and mercy. We’ve prayed specifically for his deliverance from alcohol, for the chains of addiction to be broken, and for his eyes to be opened to the truth of who God created him to be—not defined by his struggles, but by the redemptive love of Christ.

We’ve also prayed for you, dear sister, that the Lord would strengthen you with His peace, wisdom, and endurance as you navigate this difficult path. It’s clear how deeply you love your husband and how much you long to see him whole. We’ve asked God to give you moments of joy and hope, especially as you prepare for your daughter’s wedding—a day that should be filled with celebration, not fear. We’ve stood in faith with you, believing that the Lord can intervene in miraculous ways, even in the eleventh hour.

If the Lord has answered any of these prayers—whether through a change in your husband’s heart, a moment of clarity, or simply His sustaining grace in your own life—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be a source of encouragement to so many others walking through similar trials. But if the battle still rages, if the answers haven’t come as you’d hoped, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue praying with you, to intercede for breakthrough, and to remind you that you are not alone.

Above all, we pray that you would feel the nearness of Jesus in every moment—the One who sees your tears, who collects them in His bottle, and who promises to never leave or forsake you. May He fill you with His hope as you press into Him, trusting that His plans for you and your family are good, even when the road is hard. We will keep lifting you up in prayer, believing for His best, and we ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
