Prayer for ###

Disciple of Prayer
I have a brother who is trying to quit alcohol. He is married. He goes out and hangs out late at times. Even tonight he is outside. He rarely picks calls when out with friends. I am worried in case he is having an affair. Please remember him in prayers.

We lift up your brother before the Lord with heavy hearts, knowing the grip that alcohol and the temptations of this world can have on a man’s soul. The scriptures warn us, *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise"* (Proverbs 20:1). Your concern is valid, for drunkenness not only clouds the mind but also opens the door to sin—whether it be neglect of his marriage, unfaithfulness, or other forms of rebellion against God’s design.

First, we must address the spiritual foundation of this struggle. If your brother has not surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, then his battle is not merely against alcohol, but against the prince of this world who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Salvation through faith in Christ is the only true source of freedom. *"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new"* (2 Corinthians 5:17). We pray that if he does not know the Lord, he would come to repentance and place his trust in Jesus alone for salvation.

For his marriage, we stand in the gap and declare God’s protection over his union. The Bible is clear: *"Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4). If there is unfaithfulness, it is a grievous sin that wounds not only his wife but also the heart of God. We rebuke any spirit of infidelity and deception in Jesus’ name, and we pray that the Lord would expose any hidden sin and bring it into the light. *"For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light"* (Luke 8:17).

We also pray for conviction and repentance if he is engaging in late-night activities that dishonor his marriage vows. The apostle Paul warns, *"Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). But praise God, for the next verse offers hope: *"And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God"* (1 Corinthians 6:11). There is forgiveness and restoration for those who turn to Christ in humility.

We bind the spirit of addiction and declare freedom over your brother in the mighty name of Jesus. *"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed"* (Luke 4:18). We pray that he would be set free from the chains of alcohol and that his eyes would be opened to the destructive path he is on.

For his wife, we ask the Lord to grant her strength, wisdom, and discernment. If she is unaware of his struggles, may the Holy Spirit reveal the truth to her in a way that leads to healing and not destruction. If she is already aware, may she respond with grace, truth, and a heart that seeks restoration rather than bitterness. *"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you"* (Ephesians 4:31-32).

We also pray for accountability. Your brother needs godly men in his life who will speak truth, challenge him, and walk with him in his journey toward sobriety and faithfulness. *"Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance"* (Proverbs 27:17). May the Lord surround him with believers who will hold him to a higher standard and encourage him to flee from temptation.

Father God, we come before You with hearts burdened for this man and his family. We ask that You would break the power of alcohol in his life and replace his desire for drink with a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Give him a hatred for sin and a love for You that surpasses all other loves. Convict him of any unfaithfulness, whether in thought or deed, and lead him to repentance. Strengthen his marriage, restore trust, and let Your love be the foundation that holds them together.

We declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that Your grace will be sufficient to carry them through this trial. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We ask all these things in the powerful, mighty, and matchless name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved and set free. Amen.

We're standing with you, sister, as you intercede for your brother. We've been where you are, feeling the weight of worry and the pain of watching someone we love struggle. But we know the power of prayer, and we're claiming it today for your brother.

We lift him up to the Lord, asking for a revelation of Jesus Christ in his life. We pray that the Holy Spirit would open his eyes to see the destructive path he's on, and that he would turn away from alcohol and any other sin that's ensnaring him. We're believing for a miracle of transformation, just like the one we read about in John 8:1-11, where Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."

For his marriage, we're asking God to strengthen it and restore any trust that's been broken. We're praying for your brother's wife, that she would have wisdom, discernment, and grace to navigate this challenging time. We're also asking God to surround your brother with godly men who will hold him accountable and encourage him in his journey towards sobriety and faithfulness.

We're claiming these promises for your brother and his family:

* "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)
* "No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me," says the Lord. (Isaiah 54:17)
* "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27)

We're praying all these things in Jesus' mighty name, and we trust that He is more than able to bring about the change we're asking for. Keep praying, sister. We're in this together.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We are so grateful you entrusted us with your heavy heart concerning your brother. It was our privilege to stand in the gap for him, lifting up his struggle with alcohol, his marriage, and the fear that his late nights might hide deeper hurts. We asked the Lord to break every chain of addiction, to draw him back to the safety of his home and the love of his wife, and to expose any darkness with His holy light.

If the past few days have brought any breakthrough—if your brother has chosen sobriety, if his heart has turned toward home, or if peace has come to your family—we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the battle continues and you still feel the weight of this burden, please share it again. We are here to keep praying, to keep believing with you for restoration and truth.

May the Father wrap His arms around your brother, may the Holy Spirit convict and comfort him, and may Jesus Christ be the firm foundation he runs to. We continue to lift this family before the throne, trusting that God is at work even when we cannot see it. In Jesus’ Name we pray.
