prayer for wisdom

Beloved of All
Hello, I got to know a man and we like us and we are both Christians and want to marry. But I need wisdom, as we do not know us for a long time now. Please pray for wisdom to decide, whether we should be together and build a family and for the right timing.Thank you

We rejoice with you that you both know the Lord and desire to honor Him in seeking marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and we thank you for inviting us to pray with you for wisdom and right timing.

We share your desire to move carefully because you have not known each other for a long time, and that caution itself is wisdom. The heart can be eager while true knowledge of character takes time to be revealed. We encourage you both to seek the Lord together above all, to trust not in feelings alone but in His leading. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And James 1:5 promises If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We also remember Proverbs 15:22 that without consultation, plans are frustrated, but in the multitude of counselors they are established, so we encourage you to invite wise godly counsel from your pastors and mature believers who know you, to observe one another’s faith, character, and walk over time, and to pursue courtship that remains pure until marriage. Hebrews 13:4 says Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, and 1 Corinthians 6:18 calls us to flee sexual immorality, so we encourage you to guard purity as you discern God’s will. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven, and we trust God will make His timing clear as you wait on Him.

We are glad you identify as Christians, for it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and hope for a Christ centered home. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. As you both belong to Him, you are already equally yoked as 2 Corinthians 6:14 teaches, and that is the foundation for a marriage that can honor God and for building a family where children are a heritage from Yahweh as Psalm 127:3 teaches.

We pray together now in Jesus’ name. Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and thank You for these two lives who desire to honor You in marriage and family. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom upon them liberally, to give them clear discernment to know whether it is Your will for them to be joined together. Teach them to hear Your voice, to be patient, and not to awaken love before its proper time. Reveal each one’s character, faith, and calling to the other, and bring godly counselors around them to speak truth in love. Guard their hearts and bodies in purity, keep them from fornication and from rushing ahead of Your perfect timing. If it is Your will for them to marry, make the path straight and confirm it with peace, unity, and the blessing of their spiritual leaders, and prepare them to build a home that honors You and reflects Christ’s love for the church. If it is not Your will, give them grace to release each other with thankfulness and to trust Your better plan. In all things let Your will be done. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We're thankful you reached out and shared this. Wanting to honor God with a decision as big as marriage, and asking for wisdom when feelings are still new, is a really good and humble place to be.

It's understandable to feel both hopeful and uncertain when you like each other and share faith but haven't known each other long. Wisdom often grows with time and with input from people who know you well.

One practical step that helps many couples is to invite a pastor or a mature married couple you both trust into the process early, not just to bless the relationship but to walk with you. Premarital counseling or even a few intentional conversations with them can give you space to talk through expectations about faith, family, finances, past history and how you handle conflict, and to see character over time in ordinary life, not just when you're together alone. Taking that unhurried time together, with community around you, often brings clarity about whether to move forward and when.

We are praying for clear wisdom for you both and for peace about timing, whether that means moving forward or waiting.

Father, we lift this sister and this brother to You. Give them clear minds, honest conversations and wise counsel around them. Lead them step by step and help them seek Your will above all else. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your request with thankfulness and join you in seeking the Lord for wisdom, for wisdom is man's true path and the compass by which he is to steer across the trackless waste of life. Without it we run as the wild ass's colt, wasting strength which might be profitably employed, but where it is found there is dignity and safety, for the price of wisdom is above rubies and it is to be valued above pure gold.

You do well to ask for wisdom and not to lean upon your own apprehension. The counsel of the Word is not merely the counsel of a wise man, but the counsel of that Incarnate Wisdom who speaks to us out of the Scriptures, and Christ Himself is the wisdom of God. He planned the way of salvation and by Him the pillars of the world were laid, and in Him are hid all treasures of wisdom. We never encounter a difficulty but we resolve it by appealing to the wisdom of God, and never meet opposition but we overcome it by leaning upon His power. Go then to Him in prayer, and to His Word, and to the godly counsel of those who watch over your souls, for he who has seen his father's wisdom in other matters will mistrust his own judgment and rather trust what wisdom teaches.

Concerning marriage, remember what the Scripture teaches, that this relationship is not one of birth but the result of choice on each side, and it is cemented by mutual love wherein the two become one. It is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, ordained of God, and therefore not to be entered lightly or hastily. That you have known each other but a short time is itself a call to pause and to prove all things with godly fear and holy carefulness. Take time to be well instructed in one another's faith, character, and calling before the Lord, that your choice may be sober, deliberate, and in the fear of the Lord.

We pray for you now that the Lord would grant you clear sight and a quiet heart. May He keep you both in purity until that covenant is solemnly made, for that which belongs to marriage belongs within it alone. May He give you counselors who know His Word and who will speak truth to you in love, and may He order your steps so that if it be His will to join your lives, you may build a Christian home to His glory, and if not, that you may be content to follow where His wisdom leads, knowing that what He does is always best.

Our Father, we ask in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, who is our wisdom and righteousness, that Thou wouldst pour upon our sister and our brother a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Thee. Guide them by Thy Word, guard them from haste and from presumption, and make plain to them Thy will and Thy timing. Let their hearts be stayed upon Thee, and let their desire be above all to please Thee and to walk in holiness. If it be Thy good pleasure to unite them in marriage, make their love fervent and pure and their covenant firm, to the praise of Thy grace. If Thou hast another path, give grace to submit. We ask that Thou wouldst be their compass and their light until the day is clear. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We thank you for sharing your request and for your desire to honor God in this important decision. We join you in prayer for wisdom, and we rejoice to hear that you both know Christ and desire marriage as God has ordained it.

Scripture teaches that if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask of God who gives generously to all without reproach, and that true wisdom is not the wisdom of this world which passes away, but the wisdom from above which is hidden with God and revealed by His Spirit. We pray that God will give you that wisdom, that you may see clearly what is His will and not be led by mere feeling or by the counsel of the world. Marriage is a bond ordained by God and it is honorable. It is not itself holiness, but it preserves the holiness that comes through faith when it is entered with chasteness and an orderly life together, each belonging faithfully to the other.

As you seek clarity about whether to build a family together and about the right timing, we encourage you to take time to know one another well. You are wise to recognize that you have not known each other long. Use this time with moderation and patience, not rushing, but testing and proving character. Keep your relationship pure, reserving living together and the union of marriage for within the covenant itself. Invite Christ into your courtship by inviting His people in. Seek counsel from mature believers, your pastors and families who know you and can see what you may not see, and observe one another in ordinary life, in service, in trials and in faithfulness to the Lord. Marriage brings much responsibility and care for one another, so it is good to count the cost and to see whether you are united in faith, purpose and love for Christ above all.

We pray for you now. Father in heaven, we thank You for Your gift of marriage and for the faith You have given to these two. Grant them Your wisdom that surpasses worldly wisdom. Give them clarity, peace and patience to wait on Your timing. Help them to walk in purity and gravity, to guard holiness, and to seek You first. If it is Your will that they be joined together, establish them and make their union fruitful for Your glory. If not, give them grace to accept Your direction and to follow You with whole hearts. Lead them by Your Spirit and make Your will known to them. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.
