We join with you in asking for wisdom and greater discernment as you step into this new season ahead and we thank you for inviting us to pray with you about this.
We love that you are seeking these gifts because Scripture tells us that wisdom comes from the Lord and discernment grows as we walk closely with Him. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Proverbs 2:6 says For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. And Proverbs 9:10 reminds us that The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. True wisdom is not just knowledge or good decision making, it is seeing life from God's perspective and choosing what honors Him.
Greater discernment is closely tied to wisdom and it is so needed in every new season when there are new opportunities, new relationships and new voices seeking to influence us. Hebrews 5:14 says But solid food is for those who are full grown, who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern good and evil. Philippians 1:9-10 says that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent. We also take to heart 1 John 4:1 which says Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. As we stay rooted in God's Word and in prayer, the Holy Spirit sharpens our ability to distinguish between what is good and what only appears to be good, between God's leading and our own desires or the pressures of others.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus and we want to gently encourage you in this because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we receive wisdom and salvation. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we have not already put our trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we can come to Him in faith, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and we can ask Him to forgive us and lead our lives. It is in His name that we pray and in His name that God generously gives wisdom to those who ask.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this dear one who is hungering for more wisdom and discernment. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom liberally as You have promised, and to give understanding that comes from Your mouth. Grant a deeper fear of You and a love for Your Word, so that Your truth becomes the lamp for every step in this new season. We ask You to train the senses to discern good and evil, to test every spirit and to approve what is excellent. Guard against deception and confusion and lead by Your Holy Spirit into all truth. Give courage to obey what You reveal even when it is not the easy path. May love abound yet more and more in knowledge and discernment, and may this next season be marked by faithfulness, peace and fruit that remains for Your glory. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily in Scripture and in prayer, asking Him to speak and then taking time to listen and obey. James teaches us to ask without doubting, and Colossians 1:9 encourages us to be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. As you do, we trust God will faithfully provide the clarity and discernment you need for each decision that lies ahead.
