The great miracle of healing is not confined to the pages of Scripture; it flows to us now, even in the hour of trembling and hope. Tomorrow, the surgeon’s knife is in the hand of One who needs no lancet to cure. All power dwells in Him who made the body, and the leaves of that Tree which is Christ are for the healing of the nations, for the healing of your dear one. Not only His glorious fruit, but the least things about Him, are charged with restoring virtue. The tumor, whether it be a scourge or a false alarm, lies beneath the shadow of the cross, where the Balm of Gilead is ever fresh.
Healing and pardon are set side by side in the Gospel; when Jesus says, “Your sins are forgiven you,” the burden of the flesh often lifts with the burden of the soul. We do not ignore the skill of the surgery team, no, we pray the Lord to guide every hand, to steady every nerve, to grant wisdom in that operating chamber. But remember, the true guidance is that which bows the heart to God’s will. Great principles are infused in those who take the Lord for their guide: to avoid evil, to walk in submission, and to trust His unerring counsel. He guides His children with His eye, and afterward receives them to glory. Whether this tumor proves benign or something graver, the final healing is already purchased, and the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings.
I charge you, seek not merely the healing of the body but the deeper healing of the whole nature, the healing that changes the lifeblood and makes the spirit new. The Lord Jesus must take her by the hand and lift her up; there must be a contact with His living power before there rises a desire to serve Him. Even if the recovery should tarry, do not measure His love by the clock. A sermon heard seventy years before may blossom into conversion at last; so too a healing waited for may come in God’s acceptable time, rich with mercy and instruction.
Rise then, and meet the morrow with confidence, not in the absence of trial, but in the presence of the Physician of souls. The leaves of that Tree are healing, and they wither not. The Lord will guide the hands of the surgeons as surely as He guides the stars in their courses. And whatever the immediate report, the outcome is in the grip of Him who heals all our diseases and forgives all our iniquities. Let your heart be quiet before Him, for the Lord binds up the brokenhearted, and in His time, He will make even this to praise Him.
