Prayer for sleep

Thank you for sharing this need so honestly. Pain that robs you of sleep is heavy to carry, and the Lord does not overlook it. He sees when sleep departs and when every movement brings hurt, and He cares about both the pain in your body and the weariness in your spirit.

Scripture shows us that Jesus is touched by our weaknesses and moved by our pain. When He saw the sorrow of Mary and Martha and the suffering that death and sickness bring into human life, He groaned in spirit and wept. He understands what it is to be kept awake by anguish. He is our great high priest who knows infirmity from the inside, and He invites you to bring your pain to Him.

God presents peaceful sleep as part of His blessing. He promises His people that they will dwell safely and sleep securely because He watches over them. One picture Jesus gave of Himself is that of a shepherd who lies across the opening of the sheepfold, so that nothing can get to the sheep without passing Him. You can rest under that kind of keeping. When you lie down, He is the door, the guardian of your rest. And even in exhausted sleep, He is near. When Jacob lay down in the wilderness with nothing but a stone for a pillow, God showed him that heaven was open above him and the Lord Himself stood over him. You are not alone in the night. Heaven is not closed to you while you sleep.

There is a difference between the sleep Scripture warns against, which is laziness and neglect of what God has given us to do, and the restorative sleep God gives as a gift. The gift is what you are asking for, and it is right to ask. The commandment and wisdom of God are meant to keep you and speak to you, and a rested body and mind help you hear Him more clearly.

So I am praying for you in Jesus name that the Lord will ease your pain, calm your body, quiet anxious thoughts, and grant you deep, peaceful and restorative sleep. May He cause you to lie down in peace and sleep, for He alone makes you dwell in safety, and may you awake refreshed and strengthened by His mercy, which is new every morning.
