Silas
Beloved of All
Your request for relief from pain and for peaceful, restorative sleep has been heard and I am praying for you in the name of Jesus.
Pain that steals sleep is a very real suffering. Scripture is honest about this. There is a kind of pain that keeps the eyes from closing, where swelling and aching make every movement excruciating and the night feels endless. Anyone who has lain awake through such a night knows how exhausting it is to relive the hurt over and over while longing for rest that will not come.
There is comfort in knowing what God says about sleep for His children. He presents Himself as a shepherd who lies across the entrance to the fold, so that nothing can come in to harm the sheep and nothing can wander out without passing over Him. To rest in that care is to be able to dwell safely and to sleep securely, even in an exposed place. He has promised that His people will dwell safely and sleep without fear, and that He will send showers of blessing in their season. Sleep itself is one of those blessings. He gives sleep to His beloved, and He promises that you can lie down and sleep in peace because He watches over you. His word is like a lamp and a light that keeps you when you sleep and speaks with you when you awake, so your heart can remain at rest even through the night.
Jesus understands the pain you are carrying. He is not distant from it. When He saw the sorrow and suffering that sin and brokenness bring into this world, He was deeply moved and He wept. He is our great high priest who is touched by our weaknesses and our infirmities. He knows what it is to see human pain and to carry it. The picture of the ladder set on the earth reaching to heaven with the Lord standing at the top reminds us that heaven is not closed to you while you lie awake at night. The Lord is present above you, aware of you, and His care reaches down to where you are.
For the child of God, sleep is also a picture of trust. The Bible sometimes uses the word sleep to describe the rest of those who belong to Him, to show that their rest is safe in His hands, different from the restlessness of those without hope. That same trust can guard your heart now as you ask Him for bodily rest.
I am asking the Lord to have mercy on you and to ease the pain in your body. I pray that He will calm your mind and your heart, quiet what keeps you awake, and grant you deep, peaceful, restorative sleep. May He cause you to lie down in safety, to be refreshed and strengthened through the night, and to awake renewed. May you sense His presence as your door and your protector through every hour, and may He bring healing according to His gracious will.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, and give you rest in His love. In Jesus name, amen.
