Prayer for sleep

Pain and sleepless nights wear down both body and soul. I join you in asking for relief and for the kind of restorative sleep that only God can give. But while we pray for physical rest, let me also point you toward a deeper rest that holds steady even when sleep won’t come.
Scripture speaks of a rest that remains for the people of God, a rest we enter not by solving every problem or managing every ache, but by faith. It is the rest of ceasing from our own efforts and trusting completely in what Jesus has already accomplished. When pain keeps you awake and your mind churns, the temptation is to fight for control, to wrestle with the “why” and the “how.” But true rest is found only as you lean your full weight on Him. You can whisper in the dark, “Lord, I have no resources left, so I rest on You.” That is not a passive surrender to despair; it is the active peace of believing He holds you.
Jesus understands what it is to suffer. He wept at the grave of Lazarus, moved by the pain that sin brings into this world. Your sleeplessness and discomfort do not escape His notice. He is near, even in the long hours of the night. And though the present suffering is real, it is light and momentary when set alongside the eternal weight of glory being prepared for you.
So as you lie down, close your eyes not only to sleep but to your own striving. Trust that the One who watches over you neither slumbers nor sleeps. May His Spirit rest upon you, quiet your mind, ease your body, and grant you that peaceful, restoring rest you desperately need. In Jesus’ name, amen.
