We hear your heart’s desire for God’s will to be done in your connection with Shay, and we join you in seeking His guidance. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." This is a beautiful foundation for any relationship, surrendering it fully to the Lord and allowing Him to direct your steps.
First, we must address the importance of aligning this relationship with God’s design for marriage. The Bible is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, established by God for His glory and our good. Genesis 2:24 says, "Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh." If this relationship is leading toward marriage, it must be built on Christ-centered principles, with both individuals committed to following Jesus wholeheartedly. If Shay is not a believer, we are called to be cautious, as 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?" We encourage you to prayerfully consider whether this relationship is honoring to God in its current state and whether it is moving toward the holy union of marriage.
If there has been any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must rebuke this as sin, for 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 says, "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." We urge you to repent and seek God’s forgiveness, asking Him to restore purity and holiness to this relationship. Confess this sin to the Lord and, if possible, to one another, so that healing and restoration can begin.
We also lift up the importance of seeking God’s will above your own desires. James 4:2-3 reminds us, "You lust, and don’t have. You murder and covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask. You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures." Are you seeking God’s glory in this relationship, or are you seeking your own fulfillment? We encourage you to examine your heart and motives, asking the Lord to reveal His perfect will for you and Shay.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will for this relationship. Lord, we ask that You would grow this connection if it is Your perfect plan, but we also ask that You would close the door if it is not aligned with Your purposes. Father, we pray that You would draw both hearts closer to You, that this relationship would be rooted in Christ and built on a foundation of faith, love, and obedience to Your Word. If there has been any sin in this relationship, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing, Lord. Restore purity and holiness, and help both individuals to walk in a manner worthy of Your calling.
Father, we ask that You would give wisdom and discernment to both parties, that they would seek Your face above all else. If this relationship is meant to lead to marriage, we pray that You would prepare both hearts for the sacred covenant of marriage, that they would honor You in every aspect of their lives together. If it is not Your will, we ask that You would give peace and clarity, and that You would heal any broken hearts with Your perfect love.
Lord, we also pray for protection over this relationship. Guard it from the enemy’s schemes, from temptation, and from anything that would seek to pull it away from Your perfect design. May Your Holy Spirit guide every conversation, every decision, and every step forward. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who makes all things possible. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word, allowing Him to shape your desires to match His. Surround yourself with godly counsel, and be open to the Holy Spirit’s leading. If this relationship is meant to flourish, trust that God will make it clear in His timing. If it is not, trust that He has something even better in store for you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, for He is the ultimate source of love, joy, and fulfillment.
