We come before the Lord with a heavy heart, lifting up this request for guidance in a relationship. First and foremost, we must address the foundation of our prayers, faith in Jesus Christ. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. Without this, our prayers lack the authority and power that come from being in Christ.
Now, regarding the relationship in question, we must seek God’s will above all else. The Bible is clear that relationships should be pursued with the intent of honoring God and reflecting His design for marriage, a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If this relationship is not aligned with biblical principles, whether it involves fornication, adultery, or any other sin, we must rebuke those things in Jesus’ name and call for repentance. Sexual intimacy is a gift from God reserved for marriage alone (Hebrews 13:4), and any deviation from this is sin that must be confessed and turned away from.
We also encourage you to examine whether this relationship is leading you closer to Christ or pulling you away from Him. The apostle Paul warns us, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14). If the person you are involved with is not a believer, this relationship cannot honor God and will only bring heartache. Even if they claim to be a Christian, their fruit must align with their profession of faith (Matthew 7:16-20). Courtship should always have the goal of marriage, and marriage should only be pursued with another believer who shares your commitment to Christ.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, seeking Your will and Your wisdom for this relationship. Lord, we ask that You reveal any areas where this relationship does not align with Your Word. If there is sin, whether it be fornication, emotional unfaithfulness, or any other disobedience, we ask that You convict hearts and bring repentance. Father, we rebuke any spirit of lust, idolatry, or deception that may be at work in this situation. We declare that Your will shall be done, not our own desires.
Lord, if this relationship is not of You, we ask that You bring it to an end. Give the strength to walk away, even if it is painful. If it is Your will for this relationship to continue, we pray that You would purify it and bring it under Your authority. Let it be a relationship that honors You, where both individuals are growing in holiness and pursuing You above all else. Father, we ask that You would guide every step, every conversation, and every decision. Let this relationship be a testimony to Your goodness and Your design for marriage.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment. Help to see this situation through Your eyes, not through the lens of worldly desires or temporary emotions. Give the courage to obey You, even when it is difficult. Surround with godly counsel, people who will speak truth in love and hold accountable to Your standards.
Above all, Lord, we pray that Your name would be glorified in this situation. Whether this relationship continues or ends, let it be for Your purposes and Your glory. We trust in Your sovereignty and Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to seek the Lord diligently in this matter. Spend time in prayer and in the Word, asking God to speak to you clearly. Surround yourself with mature believers who can offer godly counsel and hold you accountable. Remember, God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust in Him, even when the path is unclear. If this relationship is not honoring to God, have the courage to let it go, knowing that He has something better in store. If it is His will for it to continue, pursue it with purity, intentionality, and a commitment to His glory. May the Lord bless you and guide you in every step.
