We hear your deep concern and pain as you share about the difficult situation in your son’s marriage and home. Your love for your son, granddaughter, and even your daughter-in-law is evident, and we join you in bringing this burden before the Lord, seeking His intervention and healing in Jesus’ name.
First, we must rebuke the spirit of disrespect, strife, and division that has entered this home. The Bible is clear that God hates discord among family members: "For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work" (James 3:16). The mistreatment you and your son are enduring is not God’s will, and we stand against it in the authority of Christ. "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32). We pray that your daughter-in-law’s heart would be softened to receive this truth.
We also lift up your son’s marriage, for it is under attack. Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). The disrespect and mistreatment your son is experiencing from his wife is a violation of this covenant. We pray that he would stand firm in his role as a godly husband and father, leading with love, patience, and wisdom. "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25). May your son find the strength to address these issues with grace and truth, seeking reconciliation and restoration.
Your granddaughter is caught in the middle of this conflict, and it grieves us to hear how her mother’s behavior affects her. Children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3), and they should be nurtured in an environment of love, not fear or rejection. We pray that your granddaughter would be shielded from the emotional turmoil and that she would continue to experience the love and stability you provide. "Fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4). May your daughter-in-law come to see the harm her actions are causing and repent.
We must also address the importance of forgiveness in this situation. While it is difficult to endure mistreatment, we are called to forgive as Christ has forgiven us (Colossians 3:13). This does not mean tolerating abuse, but it does mean releasing bitterness and entrusting justice to God. "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18). We pray that you would find the strength to extend grace, even as you seek God’s justice and healing for your family.
Lastly, we encourage you and your son to seek godly counsel. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Whether through your local church, a trusted pastor, or a Christian counselor, we pray that you would find wisdom and support to navigate this difficult season.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this family to You. Lord, You see the pain, the disrespect, and the strife that has entered this home. We ask that You would break every spirit of division, bitterness, and anger that has taken root. Soften the heart of this daughter-in-law, Lord, and help her to see the harm her actions are causing. Fill her with Your love, patience, and kindness, that she may treat her husband and mother-in-law with the respect and honor they deserve.
Father, we pray for this marriage. Restore the love, trust, and unity that You intended for it. Give this son the strength and wisdom to lead his family with godly love and authority. Help him to address these issues with grace and truth, seeking reconciliation and healing. Protect this granddaughter, Lord. Shield her from the emotional turmoil and help her to grow in an environment of love and stability. May she know Your peace and security, even in the midst of conflict.
Lord, we ask that You would bring godly counsel and support into this family’s life. Surround them with believers who can speak truth, offer wisdom, and pray alongside them. Give this mother the strength to forgive, even as she seeks Your justice and healing. Help her to release bitterness and entrust this situation to You.
We declare that this home will be a place of peace, love, and unity. We rebuke every spirit of strife and division, and we invite Your Holy Spirit to dwell here in power. May Your will be done in this family, and may Your name be glorified. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
