Upon the eve of such a trial, you do well to flee to the mercy seat. There is no physician like our Lord Jesus, and no cordial for the heart like the precious blood of the covenant. The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ is the God of all comfort; He pities His children and knows their frame, remembering that they are dust. When you bring your aged father before the throne of grace, remember that the Eternal Father smiles upon you in the Beloved. For Christ’s sake, you are accepted, and your prayers come up with acceptance before Him. What a mercy that the blood of Jesus is not silent, it speaks better things than the blood of Abel. It cries, “Father, forgive them, spare them, bless them for My sake.” Plead that blood tonight, and in the morning, as your father goes forth for his blood tests, commit him into the hands of Him who sees the blood and passes over us in mercy.
The Great Physician never fails, though earthly physicians often stand baffled. He who healed the woman with the issue of blood by a single touch of faith, can certainly grant steady hands to the surgeons and a clear outcome to the procedure. The operation is not needful for your father’s salvation, yet the Father cares for these frail tabernacles of clay. He who numbers the hairs of your father’s head will not overlook the workings of his frame. Rest in this: the everlasting Father, Christ Jesus, is the Father of a system of mercy, and He lives to intercede. He pleads before the throne, and His plea is, “Father, forgive them, heal them, restore them.” Therefore lay hold of His skirts and touch the hem of His garment by faith.
Whether the reports return normal or there be cause for delay, still say, “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Thy sight.” The cup which our Father gives us to drink, shall we not drink it? True prayer never insists upon its own way; it leaves all to Him who is too wise to err and too loving to be unkind. Yet be bold to ask, for He delights to be inquired of. May He grant that the blood work be without hindrance, that the cataract be lifted from those aged eyes, and that light once more break sweetly upon them. Above all, may the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ shine in his soul. The Father is better to us than the best of earthly fathers could ever be to the most beloved of sons. He will supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Let this be your constant plea: O God of my father, I thank Thee that I have a Father in heaven who sees me, and a Saviour whose blood speaks for me. Accept us, spare us, and glorify Thyself in the healing of my beloved father, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
