Forgiveness Before Sundown
Letting go of anger by sundown brings peace to your heart and health to your body.
We join with you in prayer over this painful fallout and we hear the honesty in your heart as you confess both your grief and your anger. To love someone like family for many years and then feel that bond break is a deep loss, and it is understandable that you feel torn and grieving. At the same time we must address with love what you have shared about wanting revenge, because that desire, while human, does not align with God's will for you and will only keep you in bondage.

The Word tells us Be angry, and don't sin. Don't let the sun go down on your wrath, and don't give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27. Anger itself can be a signal of hurt, but when we hold onto it and let it turn into bitterness and plans for revenge, we give the enemy a foothold. Scripture is very clear about vengeance, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19. And again, Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21. We must rebuke the thought of revenge and release that right to God, who sees all that has happened, who judges righteously, and who also loves you and your former friend and desires redemption rather than retaliation.

God also calls us to put away that anger and to forgive as we have been forgiven. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32. This is echoed in Colossians 3:13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Forgiveness does not mean what happened was right or that trust is automatically restored, but it means releasing the debt to God and choosing to no longer hold it against that person in your heart. Jesus warns us For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15. We also hear your desire to repent, and we praise God for that humble heart, for If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Bring your anger and your desire for revenge into the light and confess it to Him, and He will cleanse you and give you a new heart.

We also thank you that you prayed in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and peace with God. As it is written, So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. James 1:19-20. And Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don't fret; it leads only to evildoing. Psalm 37:8.

We pray together with you now.

Father, in Jesus' name we come before You on behalf of our brother and sister who is hurting. Lord, You see the years of friendship, the love that was like family, and the deep wound of this fallout. We ask You to forgive us for holding onto anger and for any thought of revenge, and we confess those sins before You now. Cleanse this heart and create in us a clean spirit. Take away bitterness, wrath and malice, and fill this place with Your tenderness and mercy. Teach us to forgive even as You in Christ forgave us, not by our own strength but by Your Spirit. We release this former friend to You, asking that You would bless them, heal them, and work in their life as well, and we place vengeance wholly in Your hands. Heal the brokenhearted, Lord, for You are near to those who have a broken heart. Grant peace that surpasses all understanding to guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and give grace to move forward, not looking back with anger but pressing forward in Your purpose. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to You. Philippians 4:6-7. We ask for freedom from this anger and for a future walked in forgiveness, repentance and wholeness. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring this daily to the Lord in prayer, to speak honestly to Him when anger rises, and to meditate on Scripture and let it renew your mind. When thoughts of revenge come, immediately surrender them to God and choose to pray a blessing over that person instead, overcoming evil with good. Seek fellowship with mature believers who can walk with you, keep you accountable, and remind you of God's grace. The Lord will heal this grief in time and He will use even this painful loss to grow you in Christlikeness as you walk in repentance and forgiveness.

We are so sorry for this painful loss. Loving someone for many years like family and then having a fallout that should never have happened leaves a real grief, and it makes sense that you feel torn and angry and even have thoughts of getting even. Thank you for being honest about that and for wanting to move forward in a different way.

One thing that has helped others is understanding that forgiveness often happens in two parts. There is a decision to let go of pursuing revenge and to release the debt to God, and then there is the slower work of the heart where resentment and anger gradually lose their grip. The decision can be made even while the emotions are still raw, and the emotions often need time, prayer, and honest grieving to catch up. Holding onto revenge tends to hurt the one carrying it most.

When those angry thoughts rise, it can help to quietly name them and in that moment choose again to hand the person and the situation over to the Lord rather than rehearsing what you would say or do. If you have a trusted pastor or mature believer, sharing this struggle out loud with them can keep you from carrying it alone.

We are praying with you.

Father, we lift our brother to You in Jesus name. You see his grief and his anger and his desire to do what is right. Give him grace to repent where needed and to release the desire for revenge to You. Heal his heart, quiet the turmoil, and guide his next steps forward in Your peace. Amen.

Your honest cry before the Lord is heard, and it is good that you have brought this anger and sorrow into His light rather than hiding it in your heart. To feel grief over the loss of a close friend is natural, for love makes separation painful, but to cherish anger and to desire revenge is a burden that will poison your own soul if it is not laid down at the Cross.

There is forgiveness with God, and that is your first hope. Scripture says, There is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. This forgiveness is divine, surprising and complete. It is not from man, but from God Himself, and He gives it freely through Jesus Christ alone, who died the Just for the unjust to bring us to God. However sinful your thoughts of anger and revenge may have been, however hard your heart has felt in these days, there is forgiveness for you now if you come with a penitent heart and desire it. God not only forgave you at the first when you trusted Christ, but He continues daily to forgive, and the forgiveness He gives for Christ's sake is an eternal forgiveness, a blotting out of the whole debt.

True repentance gives God glory. There is a carnal repentance that is only sorrow for consequences, but the repentance which is the work of the Spirit is holy and heavenly. It stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven and then repents more deeply because it sees what that sin laid upon the Lord. It leads you to look out of self to Christ and to Christ only, to weep and abhor the sin because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and to turn from present sin because of the love of God who died for you. Ask the Lord for such repentance, a repentance unto life, which is practical and lasting and yields works meet for repentance. Confess plainly to Him the anger and the desire for revenge, for vengeance belongs to the Lord and not to us, and He has said, Vengeance is mine, I will repay.

And as you have received forgiveness, so you are called to give it. We have in Christ a full forgiveness, and for us to forgive ought to become as natural as to open our hands. The Word says, Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. This is a joint work of mutual forgiveness among the people of God. To forgive your friend does not mean the wound was not deep or that the fallout should have happened, but it means you release that person from your judgment and place both justice and mercy in the hands of God, who judges righteously.

May the Lord grant you grace to do this. Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath, but bring your heart each evening to Him and ask for a tender and forgiving spirit.

Let us pray for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that there is forgiveness with Thee through the blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ. We confess before Thee the anger and the thoughts of revenge that have risen in this wounded heart, and we ask for that true repentance which Thou alone canst work by Thy Spirit. Wash away this sin and give a clean heart. By Thy grace, enable Thy child to forgive even as Thou for Christ's sake hast forgiven, to leave vengeance in Thy hands, and to find peace in Thy complete and surprising mercy. Heal the sorrow of this broken friendship, take away bitterness, and lead forward in love and holiness, that Thy name may be glorified. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only hope of salvation. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest prayer before God in the middle of this pain is itself pleasing to Him. You have named what many try to hide, the grief of losing someone you loved like family, the confusion, and the anger that wants revenge. God sees all of it and He invites you to bring it to Him so He can heal it.

It is right that you want to repent and turn from anger and thoughts of revenge. Scripture is clear that revenge belongs to the Lord, not to us. When we hold onto anger we harm our own soul more than anyone else. To be overcome by anger keeps us like children tossed by passion, but to overcome it with God's help is a mark of strength and maturity. Forgiveness does not mean the hurt was not real or that the fallout should have happened. It means you release the other person into God's hands and refuse to let bitterness rule your heart.

True friendship as God intends is built on love for what is good and holy, not only on long acquaintance or shared history. When such a friendship is broken, the grief is deep, like losing family. Yet even then God can use the sorrow to teach us to love more purely, to seek friendships that help us walk toward Him, and to learn how to love even those who have hurt us by entrusting them to Christ.

The way forward is not to pour your wrath out on the person who hurt you, but to turn that strong energy against the true enemy of your soul, the devil who wants to use this wound to keep you in anger and separation from God. Bring your anger to Jesus, confess it plainly, ask for His mercy, and ask Him to replace it with His peace.

Let us pray for you now.

Father in heaven, thank You that You see this hurt and this anger without condemnation and that You welcome an honest heart. We confess before You the anger and the desire for revenge, and we ask for Your forgiveness through Jesus Christ Your Son who died for us while we were still sinners. Soften this wounded heart, take away the bitterness, and teach how to forgive as You have forgiven. Heal the grief of this lost friendship, comfort the loneliness, and give wisdom to move forward in a way that honors You. Fill this heart with Your love and peace, and guard it from the schemes of the enemy. Help to walk in grace day by day and to seek friendships that encourage holiness and hope in You. In the name of Jesus our Lord we pray, Amen.

Continue to bring this daily to the Lord in prayer, stay in His Word, and if possible share this burden with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you. God is able to turn even this painful loss into a place of growth and deeper dependence on Him.
