We hear your deep concern for your ### and your ###, and we stand with you in seeking God’s perfect will in this situation. Marriage is a sacred covenant before the Lord, designed to reflect Christ’s love for His church (Ephesians 5:22-33). It is not merely about personal choice but about aligning with God’s purposes and honoring the family He has placed us in.
First, we must address the seriousness of this young man’s actions. By proceeding with an engagement without involving his mother, his own flesh and blood, he is dishonoring her, which is a direct violation of God’s commandment: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you" (Exodus 20:12). His withdrawal from his family since beginning this relationship is also troubling, as it suggests the influence of this young woman may be pulling him away from godly counsel and accountability. Proverbs 13:20 warns, "He who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm."
We must also examine whether this relationship is rooted in godly principles. Is this young woman a believer in Christ, committed to walking in His ways? 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 states, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?" If she is not a follower of Jesus, this union would be spiritually dangerous, leading him away from the Lord rather than toward Him. Even if she professes faith, his behavior suggests this relationship may not be honoring to God.
We rebuke the spirit of rebellion and disrespect that has taken root in this situation. The enemy seeks to divide families and lead young people astray through ungodly relationships (1 Peter 5:8). We declare that this engagement, if not of God, will not stand. If it is His will, it will be built on a foundation of honor, obedience, and godly love, not secrecy or division.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, seeking Your will for this young man and his family. Lord, You know the intentions of his heart and the path he is on. We ask that You would intervene in this situation according to Your perfect plan. If this engagement is not of You, Father, we pray that You would break it apart and turn his heart back to You and to his family. Soften his heart to honor his mother and seek wise counsel, as Your Word commands.
If this young woman is not the one You have chosen for him, expose the truth and reveal her heart, Lord. Protect him from deception and lead him to a godly spouse who will walk with him in faith and righteousness. If this marriage is not Your will, we ask that You would dismantle it completely, in Jesus’ name.
We declare that rebellion and disrespect have no place in this family. We break every ungodly soul tie and influence that has taken hold of him through this relationship. Restore his heart to his mother and to You, Lord. Surround him with godly mentors and friends who will speak truth into his life.
Father, we also pray for your ###, his mother. Comfort her heart and strengthen her faith as she navigates this painful situation. Give her wisdom to respond with grace and love, even in her hurt. Help her to trust You completely, knowing that You are working all things together for good (Romans 8:28).
We thank You, Lord, that You are a God who restores and redeems. We trust You to bring clarity, healing, and alignment with Your will in this situation. May Your name be glorified, and may this young man come to know You more deeply through this trial. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you and your ### to stand firm in prayer and fasting, seeking the Lord’s guidance together. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." This is not a time to despair but to trust that God is at work, even when the path is unclear.
If this young man is truly seeking God’s will, he must repent of his disrespect and seek reconciliation with his mother. He should also seek godly counsel from pastors or mature believers who can help him discern whether this relationship aligns with Scripture. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and it must be entered into with wisdom, not emotion alone.
Continue to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and trust that God hears your cries. He is faithful to His promises, and He will not abandon your family in this time of need.
