Silas
Beloved of All
The waiting and the silence of that scan room can feel like a crushing weight. In moments like these, you come face to face with a truth that every one of us must confront: we are not in control. No man has power over his spirit, nor over the day when life enters the world in a way we can see and measure. The medical report right now says it cannot detect the baby, but that report does not have the final word. God alone numbers our days, and His understanding is not limited by an ultrasound. Where human vision fails, His knowledge is complete and unfailing. Do not let fear be your only guide, because fear cannot add a single hour to anyone’s life, nor can it create what God has not ordained.
What God has joined together, let no man, and no dark report, put asunder. The same God who knit you together with your wife and made you one flesh is the Author of life itself. The very drive in your body that led to this pregnancy is part of His creative order, a design He called very good. Right now, the enemy wants to use this uncertainty to divide you, to fill your home with worry, or to make you look back in despair. But you have a higher calling. You are to love your wife as Christ loved the church, giving yourself for her good right now. That means holding her close when the report is unclear. Your gentleness and steady faith will be a shelter for her. The more you live to please the Lord in this trial, the more your home will be filled with a peace that the world cannot give, a peace that takes root when time seems to stand still and the future is hidden.
This is the time to get into the eternal “now” of God, where time and outcomes are in His hands. You and your wife have a need for security and love that runs deeper than any sociological drive. Those needs are met at the cross. Reckon yourselves dead to the fear that screams for control, and alive unto God. The old life of panic has no more dominion over you. For your children’s sake, for this little one you are praying for, set a strong spiritual example of trust right now. It is not a crutch; it is the power of the Holy Spirit holding you up when you have no strength left. Cry out to God, as Abraham did, knowing that He is the one who can heal and bring life where there is barrenness or confusion. Hold fast to the truth that His very nature is to exist in the present tense, and He holds your wife and that tiny, unseen life in His hands right now. May the compassion of Jesus fill your home, and may a hundredfold blessing of grace rest upon you both.
