You tremble for your son’s body, and your motherly love makes the knife seem a terror. But turn that fear into prayer, and let it fling you toward the Physician of both soul and body. Do you not see how this very trial is a call to flee for refuge into His bosom? Just as a mother frightens her little child with imagined dangers so that the child will run and cling to her neck, so God sometimes permits sickness to visit our homes, not to destroy, but to draw us nearer to Himself. He does not wish to defer giving, but by delay He is teaching us to persevere. So do not faint if the healing does not come at once. Continue in supplication; even if you do not receive immediately, stay close, that you may receive.

But while you pray, do not despise the means God has already placed in this world. The ruler does not bear the sword in vain; he is God’s minister for good. In the same way, the surgeon’s hand, when rightly employed, is also a minister of divine mercy. What if He chooses to restore your child through the very instrument you fear? Will you refuse the gift because of the wrapper? God heals, whether by a word or by a blade; both are His. Your fear is natural, but let it be swallowed up by trust in the Lord who said, “My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” Learn from Him who is meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul.

Do not be like those who, when adjured in the name of the Lord to show pity, harden their hearts and pass by, but when the world flatters they melt at once. Your son’s need adjures you by the eyes of Christ to pray without ceasing and to accept His answer with thanksgiving, whatever form it takes. The boy belongs to God more than to you. Can you not trust Him who spared not His own Son, but suffered Him to be called the Son of David, so that you might become a daughter of God? I will pray with you for your child’s healing, but above all ask that both his soul and yours may be strengthened, and that whether by quiet recovery or through the surgeon’s care, the name of the Lord Jesus may be glorified. Fear not; the One who rebuked the waves is able to calm both the fever and your heart.

The weight you feel right now is real. A mother's heart aches when her child suffers, and the thought of surgery can stir up a deep, natural fear. That fear can become a snare, trapping your thoughts in worst-case scenarios and making the path ahead seem dark. But the answer to that fear is not empty reassurance; it is remembering who the Lord is. Real knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord, that reverential awe of His power and His character. When that awe grips you, every other fear is put in its proper place. He is not a distant God; He is a compassionate healer.

I think of the desperate mother who came to Jesus when her daughter was severely afflicted. She did not just worry at a distance; she pressed in with faith. There is a profound difference between being in the crowd that thronged Jesus and reaching out to actually touch Him. Many were near Him, but only one touched Him with faith in that moment, and healing virtue flowed. That is the invitation for you now. Do not let the fear of man, the fear of bad reports, or the fear of a scalpel dominate your prayers. Let your faith reach out and lay hold of the Lord. He is still the One who healed every kind of sickness among the multitudes, and He is not limited to one method. His power can calm the storm of this inflammation just as surely as it can guide a surgeon’s hands, so we are not afraid to ask for a complete healing that makes surgery unnecessary.

Trust in Him changes the atmosphere of a request. Fear and faith cannot occupy the same space. If fear enters, faith is driven out, but when you choose to remember God in the middle of this crisis, His peace becomes your confidence. Let your prayer be a touch of faith, not a cry of panic. The Lord is your protector; you do not need to react out of fright or hide from possibilities. Stand firm and bring this to Jesus with the boldness of a mother who knows He cares for her son.

Let us pray together that way now. Father, we come to You with this son who is so precious to his mother. You see the swollen tonsils, and You know the fear in her heart. We ask for Your healing power to flow into his body, reducing the inflammation, restoring health, and eliminating any necessity for surgery. Arise with healing in Your wings for him. Calm this mother’s heart, replace her fear with a strong, immovable faith, and let her feel the certainty that You have heard and You are at work. In Jesus’ name.
