Prayer for my son to deal with breakup

Anonymous

Beloved of All
My ### and girlfriend of 7 years and 4 kids are separating. He is devastated and hurt, he just brought a home 5 months ago, and now she is cheating and wants to leave with the kids. He works out of town for 14 days and home for 7, that was a choice she made because she complained income was not enough. Now he finds out she is cheating and I’m afraid of depression and suicidal thoughts please help.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your son in this painful and heartbreaking season. The betrayal he is enduring—after seven years, four children, and the recent purchase of a home—is deeply wounding, and the weight of this loss is immense. Father God, we ask that You draw near to him in his despair, for You are close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Guard his mind from the lies of the enemy that would tell him his worth is tied to this relationship or that his life has no purpose without her. Remind him that his identity is found in You alone, and that You have plans for his future—plans for hope and not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11).

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of depression and despair that seeks to take hold of him. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that he might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that no weapon formed against your son shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in the gap for his emotional and mental well-being. Surround him with godly men who can speak truth into his life, hold him accountable, and remind him of Your faithfulness. Give him the strength to resist isolation and the wisdom to seek help if he is struggling with thoughts of self-harm.

Father, we also lift up the children in this situation. They are innocent in this, and the enemy would love to use this upheaval to wound their hearts as well. We pray for their protection—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. May they feel secure in Your love and in the love of their father, even as their world feels unstable. Give your son the grace to be a steady, godly presence in their lives, modeling Christlike love and patience in this difficult season.

We must address the sin that has taken place here, for the Word of God is clear: marriage is a sacred covenant, and adultery is a grievous violation of that covenant (Matthew 19:4-6, Exodus 20:14). The decision to separate was not your son’s alone, and the pain he feels is compounded by the betrayal of infidelity. Lord, we ask that You would convict the heart of his former girlfriend of her sin—not to condemn her, but to lead her to repentance and restoration, if it be Your will. If there is any hope for reconciliation, we pray that it would only come through genuine repentance, counseling, and a commitment to rebuild the marriage on biblical principles. However, if this relationship is truly broken beyond repair, we ask that You would grant your son the wisdom to navigate this season with grace, truth, and a heart that seeks Your will above all else.

We also recognize the practical challenges ahead. The financial strain of maintaining a home while potentially supporting two households is overwhelming. Lord, we ask that You provide for every need according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Give your son favor in his work, wisdom in managing his finances, and the strength to trust You even when the path ahead seems uncertain. Guide him in decisions regarding custody, legal matters, and the care of his children. May he not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, he will reap if he does not give up (Galatians 6:9).

Father, we pray that your son would turn to You in this time—not just as a last resort, but as his first and greatest source of comfort. If he does not yet know You as his personal Savior, we ask that this trial would draw him to the foot of the cross. Jesus, we declare that You are the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and that no one comes to the Father except through You. If he has wandered from You, we pray that he would return with a repentant heart, laying down his pain, his anger, and his confusion at Your feet. Remind him that You are the God who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3).

We also lift up the mother of these children. Lord, we pray that You would break through the hardness of her heart. If there is any unconfessed sin in her life, we ask that You would bring it to light and lead her to repentance. Soften her heart toward her children and toward the truth of Your Word. If there is any hope for restoration in this family, we pray that it would begin with her turning away from sin and seeking Your face. However, if this relationship is beyond repair, we ask that You would grant her the humility to co-parent with grace and the wisdom to put the needs of the children above her own desires.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of bitterness that could take root in your son’s heart. It is so easy to become consumed by anger and resentment, but Your Word tells us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Ephesians 4:32). Help him to release this pain to You, trusting that You will judge justly (1 Peter 2:23). Give him the strength to love his enemies and pray for those who persecute him (Matthew 5:44), even as he sets healthy boundaries to protect his heart and the hearts of his children.

Finally, we pray for your son’s future. Lord, we ask that You would prepare a godly wife for him—one who loves You first and foremost, who will cherish him and his children, and who will stand beside him in faith. If it is Your will for him to remarry, we pray that You would bring the right woman into his life at the right time. Until then, help him to find his contentment in You alone, trusting that You are enough (Psalm 73:25-26).

Heavenly Father, we lift all of this to You, trusting that You are working all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). Strengthen your son in his weakness, comfort him in his sorrow, and fill him with the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). May he emerge from this trial with a deeper faith, a stronger character, and an unshakable trust in Your goodness. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We continue to lift your son before the Lord, asking for His healing touch to mend the deep wounds in his heart. This season of loss—of a relationship, a home, and the daily presence of his children—must feel unbearable at times. We pray that God would surround him with His peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding his mind and heart from despair. Father, we ask that You would be his refuge in moments of loneliness and his strength when the weight of this betrayal feels too heavy to carry.

We also pray for wisdom and protection as he navigates the challenges ahead, especially with custody and the well-being of his children. Lord, give him clarity in decision-making and the courage to stand firm in what is right, even when it’s difficult. We ask that You would place godly people in his path—friends, family, or mentors—who can walk alongside him, offer encouragement, and remind him of Your love and purpose for his life.

If You have already moved in ways we cannot yet see, we thank You and ask that You make those blessings known. If the road ahead still feels dark, we stand with this family in faith, trusting that You are working all things together for good. May Your presence be tangible to your son, and may he find hope in Your promises.

We will continue to intercede on his behalf, believing that You are near to the brokenhearted and that Your grace is sufficient for every trial. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
