Prayer for my son, his gf and their dog Smokey

My son and gf's dog , ###, had been in spine surgery going in three hours. He is the kind of dog who notices every mood shift and feeling. A soul dog with very deep feelings, He is only ### and is so very loved by all of us. Pray that the surgeons hands are guided by God, that his spinal cord is not permanently damaged and that ### will again run and play and enjoy life. Also pray for son and gf to be touched by God's grace and love and abundant mercy so that they turn their souls back over to our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God for everyone who prays!

We lift our hearts together in prayer for your precious son, his girlfriend, and their beloved dog Smokey. Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, asking for Your divine intervention in this time of need. We pray for the hands of the surgeons to be guided by Your wisdom and skill, as it is written in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Lord, we ask that You protect Smokey’s spinal cord from permanent damage and grant him a full and swift recovery so that he may run, play, and enjoy life once more.

Father, we also lift up your son and his girlfriend to You. We pray that Your grace, love, and abundant mercy would touch their hearts in a profound way. Draw them back to You, Lord, so that they may surrender their lives fully to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We know that it is only through Jesus that we have access to You, as Acts 4:12 tells us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved." We pray that they would come to know the depth of Your love and the peace that surpasses all understanding, which can only be found in a relationship with You.

Lord, we also ask that You strengthen their faith and trust in You during this trial. Help them to lean on You and each other, growing closer to You and to one another in a way that honors Your design for relationships. We know that marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, and we pray that if it is Your will, their relationship would be built on the foundation of Christ, leading to a godly marriage that reflects Your love and commitment.

Father, we rebuke any fear, anxiety, or doubt that may be trying to take root in their hearts. We declare that Your perfect love casts out all fear (1 John 4:18) and that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). We pray that they would feel Your presence surrounding them, comforting them, and giving them hope.

We also ask for Your healing touch on Smokey. Lord, You are the Great Physician, and we trust in Your power to restore him to health. We pray that his recovery would be a testimony to Your goodness and faithfulness, drawing others closer to You.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to hold fast to the promises of God during this time. Trials and challenges are opportunities for us to grow in our faith and trust in Him. Remember that God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He is with you every step of the way.

We also want to gently address the nature of your son and his girlfriend’s relationship. While we understand the deep love and care they have for one another, we encourage them to consider the biblical principles for relationships. The Bible calls us to pursue relationships that honor God, with the ultimate goal of marriage between one man and one woman. If they are not already doing so, we urge them to seek God’s will for their relationship and to build it on the foundation of Christ. Sexual intimacy is a gift from God meant to be enjoyed within the bounds of marriage, and any sexual activity outside of marriage is considered fornication, which the Bible clearly warns against (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). We pray that they would seek purity and holiness in their relationship, aligning their lives with God’s Word.

Continue to seek God’s face and trust in His plan for your family. He is faithful, and His love endures forever.

It’s clear how much Smokey means to all of you. Those dogs that tune into every mood and feeling become woven into the family’s heart, and waiting through a long surgery can feel like holding your breath. We’re right there with you, asking God to guide every decision in that operating room and to protect Smokey from lasting harm.

We also carry your deeper hope for your son and his girlfriend, that the grace and mercy you’re trusting for Smokey would settle deep in their own souls and gently turn them back to Jesus. It’s never a small thing to pray for someone’s heart to soften toward God, and we join you in that today.

Father, we bring Smokey before You now. You know every detail of his small body and the hands that are working on him. Guide those hands with steady precision, and guard his spinal cord from permanent injury. Bring him safely through recovery, back to running and playing and delighting the people who love him. Hold your son and his girlfriend in this anxious waiting. Let them sense Your nearness, not as a heavy weight, but as a kindness that won’t let them go. Stir in them a hunger for Your presence that outlasts this crisis, and reawaken their trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Surround this whole family with Your peace, and give them tangible reasons to hope as they watch for Smokey’s first wag. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The cry of your heart for the little creature ### is heard. The leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and even the least things of Christ carry healing virtue. We pray that the surgeon's hands are indeed guided, that no permanent harm remains, and that this sensitive companion may again run and leap. The Lord cares for all He has made, and we cast this burden upon Him.

Yet there is a deeper matter here, for you plead also for the souls of your son and his companion. They are living in a way that is not after the pattern laid down by a holy God, and you long to see them return. The message to them is not one of condemnation alone, but this: “Return, return, return!” The prodigal came to himself and arose to go to his father, and while he was yet a great way off, the father saw him and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him with much forgiveness. That kiss was given even while the son still felt his unworthiness, and it meant overflowing comfort. So it shall be with them if they will but return.

They must turn from their evil way, for a holy God saves no man who continues in his unrighteousness. There is no salvation for those who refuse to leave their sin. You must turn or burn. Yet the way of salvation is so simple: look unto Christ and be saved. Faith is trusting in a Person, believing on Him. Let them leave the whole matter of their salvation with Him in unquestioning confidence, and they shall not be ashamed. This is God's salvation, planned from eternity, sufficient for the blackest of sinners, full of grace and mercy.

May this trial with their beloved dog be a voice crying, “Return! Return!” and may they hear it now, while there is time, for life is but a vapor. O that they would look to the Lord and be healed, that their souls would be touched by that abundant mercy, and that they would rejoice in His salvation. The healing leaves are for them, to change the life-blood and make the nature other than it was before. I pray they will delay not, but return to the father's house, where the feast of grace awaits.

The prayer for ###, that beloved creature, is not cast aside. We groan with all creation awaiting redemption, and God’s mercy extends even to the beasts. May the Lord steady the surgeons’ hands; yet fix not your hope solely on the knife of physicians. The truer surgery is that of the soul. This house is a spiritual surgery, and here the wounds that fester unseen are healed. Bring your son and the young woman to that surgery, not by bodily presence alone, but by the knife of repentance. For what gain is it if the dog runs again, yet they remain lame in the inner man, far from the Saviour?

You plead that they turn their souls back to our Lord Jesus Christ. This is the greater miracle, and faith is the root. As the Canaanite woman’s faith drew out healing for her daughter, so your own faith may draw down grace; but they themselves must be “fully persuaded” that God is able to perform what He has promised. Let them glorify Him by believing, not by sinking into the senselessness of doubt. ### feels every mood and shift; shall they not feel the weight of their own souls? Let them not harden their hearts. Worldly desires are water that cannot hold a man’s footing; only the rock of faith stands firm.

Yet I must speak plainly, because love does not flatter. You mention a son and his girlfriend. If they live together as though married, that is not marriage in the Lord. To ask God’s mercy while mocking His order is to wound oneself further. Flee fornication. Would you have the Healer bind up the spine of a dog and leave the souls of these two in paralysis? God forbid. Let them cast off every defilement and present themselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable. This is the fast God chooses: to loose the bands of wickedness, not to compound them.

Use this hour of worry as a call. The creature’s pain may pierce their hearts, but let it lead not to mere sentiment, but to the fear of the Lord. Stand on the rock. Pray, fast, and admonish them with tears, not to shame them, but to warn as beloved children for whom Christ died. If they turn, then whether ### recovers, and we hope in God’s goodness that he may, or whether he returns to the dust, they will have gained what cannot be lost. For the fashion of this world passes away, but the soul is eternal. May the Father of mercies grant both the healing of this poor beast, for your comfort, and the far greater healing of two souls, that they may become faithful children, walking in purity, and at last shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Amen.
