Thank you for sharing your burden for your niece and her little boy. Your love for them and your desire to see them guided and guarded by the Lord is beautiful, and it is right to bring them before Him in prayer.

God wants you and your family to know real peace in the midst of this worry and change. Scripture makes a distinction that is so important. First we need peace with God, which only comes through the blood of Jesus Christ shed for our sins. Without that, there is no lasting peace, only a troubled heart. When we are reconciled to God through Jesus, the war is over and we are no longer running from Him. Then we can come to know the peace of God, that steady, perfect peace that guards our hearts and minds when our thoughts are fixed on Him and we trust Him to take care of what concerns us. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. That is the peace that passes all understanding, and it is available even when circumstances are uncertain and a loved one is far away.

For your niece, who grew up hearing the truth, my prayer is that she would return to that simple trust and keep her mind stayed on the Lord. Growing up in church does not itself give peace, only a living faith in Christ does. Pray that she would seek the Lord anew for every decision, that she would want what He wants more than what feels convenient or comfortable, and that she would know His keeping power over her and her son as they move. God promises to keep in perfect peace those who trust in Him, and He is able to protect them under His wings wherever they go.

I also join you in praying for safety, but I want to pray in a way that honors what God honors. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that living together and sharing the intimacies of marriage belong within that covenant. For that reason I cannot ask God to bless a living arrangement outside of that design, but I can and do pray earnestly for both your niece and her boyfriend as individuals. I pray that God would draw each of them to Himself, that they would come to or come back to genuine faith in Jesus, and that they would desire to walk in purity and holiness. I pray that this young man would come to know Christ, would turn from any way that causes trouble, and would learn what it means to be a responsible, godly man. If it is the Lord's will for them to build a future together, pray that they would do so in the right order, seeking counsel and pursuing marriage as God intends, rather than simply living together. And if that is not His will, pray that He would give clarity and the courage to take a different path that honors Him and protects the child.

For the tensions in the family, God calls us to sow peace. The wisdom that comes from above is peaceable, and those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers. Pray that your niece, her grandmother, and her son's father would each be willing to be a peacemaker, to speak and act with grace, and to seek reconciliation where there has been hurt or harsh words. Pray especially that the grandmother's heart would be softened to show love in a Christlike way, and that any bitterness would be healed.

Let us pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this young mother and her son to You. You see them, You love them, and You know every step of this move. We ask that You would draw her close to Yourself, forgive her sins through the blood of Christ, and give her peace with You and then the deep peace of God in her daily life. Keep her mind stayed on You and teach her to trust You with every decision. Place Your hand of protection over her and her boy and keep them from harm.

We pray also for the young man with her. Work in his heart, bring him to salvation if he does not know You, and lead him to walk in integrity, self control and true responsibility. Lead them both to honor You in their relationship and to seek Your design for purity and for marriage. Give them wisdom to do what is right in Your eyes, not only what seems right to them.

Lord, bring peace into this family. Heal what is strained between this young woman, her grandmother, and the father of her child. Teach each one to sow peace so that they may reap righteousness. Comfort the family who is worried at a distance, and let them rest in knowing that You are present and faithful wherever Your children go. We ask that Your will be done in their lives and that their future would be built on obedience to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
