Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and for the love you are showing your mother in bringing her before the Lord. To honor your father and mother is a command God takes seriously, and your care and intercession for her is part of that honor. I understand how heavy this is to hear that she is facing renal failure and stage four kidney disease, and I want to join with you in prayer for her.
Prayer was the place of strength for Jesus himself. Though he is the Son of God, he often withdrew to pray and find strength from the Father, and how much more do we need that same place of strength in our weakness. Prayer is not just words we say, it is where God meets us, strengthens us, and ministers comfort and assurance to our hearts by his Spirit, especially in times of deep need.
The Scripture teaches that prayer for the sick was a normal part of the life of Jesus and the early church, and that the heartfelt, fervent prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. That kind of prayer rises from desperation and love, just as you are praying now for your mother. The Lord also said that when two or three agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done, and I want to agree with you now for your mother before the Father.
We also remember that God desires to be to us whatever our need requires. When we pray for healing, we come to him as the Lord our healer. We can ask with confidence because we have been given access to call him Father through Jesus Christ. If anyone has not yet come into that relationship with God through faith in Jesus, the first prayer God waits to hear is, God be merciful to me, a sinner, and that faith opens the door to all other prayer.
At the same time, the purpose of prayer is not to make God do our will, but to see his will accomplished on earth. Prayer begins with God, as he lays his purposes on our hearts, and we pray those purposes back to him. For that reason we pray for your mother for healing and for mercy, and we submit that request to the wisdom and love of God, trusting his will is best. Sometimes God answers quickly, sometimes he delays for a purpose we cannot yet see, as he did with Hannah who prayed for years for a son, and sometimes his answer is to give sustaining grace, as he told Paul, my grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Whether he brings healing in this life or gives strength to endure, he remains faithful and present.
So do not grow weary or faint in praying. Continue in prayer and watch with thanksgiving, bringing the same request before him again and again, until you come into harmony with his purpose and see what he will do. The real battles and victories are often won in the quiet place of prayer.
Let us pray together now. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear mother before you. You know her body, her kidneys, and every need she has. You are the Lord who heals, and we ask for your mercy upon her. If it is your will, touch her and restore her, ease her suffering, and give wisdom to those caring for her. Give her and her family your peace, comfort, and strength for each day, and draw each of them closer to you through this trial. We trust her into your loving hands and ask that your will be done in her life, and that your name be honored through it all. Amen.
