Your prayer for your marriage and your household has been brought before the Lord with sincere care, and we join our hearts with yours in seeking His mercy and protection.
To place your children, your husband, your family and your business before the throne of grace is right and good. The Lord delights to hear such petitions, for He is married unto His people, and He has shown us what true marriage is. It is not a light association but a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, entered by solemn choice and cemented by mutual love, wherein the two become one flesh. This is the holy estate which God Himself ordained, and it is to be kept with fidelity and honor in His sight.
Scripture reminds us that every sin, and especially the sin that would defile the marriage union, is committed in the sight of God. It is an awful thing to sin before the King of heaven, and those who would plot the destruction of a home do so under His all seeing eye. Yet there is hope in the same sight, for the Lord who sees also saves. As Peter fell grievously and yet was restored by a look from Christ, so the Redeemer still lives to intercede for His own. He prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail, and that look severed Peter from the crowd and brought him to repentance. The signs of true restoration were that he went out from the place of sin and wept bitterly, and afterwards was abundantly assured by the Lord's own word. In that same power of Christ to restore the fallen and to keep the tempted, we place our confidence for you.
We do not ask God to bless any relationship outside of this holy covenant, for His blessing rests only upon that which is according to His Word, and salvation and restoration are found through Jesus Christ alone. But we do ask Him to guard what He has joined together, to make it strong and pure.
Let us pray with you.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, we come before You on behalf of this wife and mother and her household. You know the burden she carries for her husband, her children, her family and the work of her hands. We ask You to set Your hand of protection about this marriage. Keep this covenant whole, as You have ordained marriage to be the lifelong union of one man and one woman, let no unholy hand divide it. Where there is temptation or unfaithfulness, bring conviction of sin and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Where there are schemes to destroy happiness and family, cause those plans to fail and come to nothing, as You have ever exalted the lowly and brought to nothing the counsels of the proud. Look upon this family with mercy, as Christ looked upon Peter, and grant restoration, forgiveness and renewed love. Strengthen husband and wife to be one in heart, to choose one another anew and to be cemented by faithful love. Establish this home in Christ, that private prayer and family prayer may be diligently maintained, and that all things may be ordered for Your glory. We ask this believing and trusting in Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom alone is salvation and life. Amen.
Continue to seek the Lord in private prayer and in the Word, committing your husband and children daily to Him who is able to keep and to restore.
