Prayer for my daughter in law to show me kindness and love

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this request for your daughter-in-law. Father, we know that relationships within a family can be complex and sometimes painful, but we trust in Your power to heal, restore, and soften hearts. Your Word tells us in 1 Peter 4:8, "Above all things, have fervent love among yourselves, for ‘love covers a multitude of sins.’" Lord, we ask that You would pour out Your love into this family, that it may overflow and cover any offenses, misunderstandings, or hurts that have built up over time.

We pray specifically for your daughter-in-law, Father. Soften her heart toward you and help her to see you through the eyes of Christ. May she be filled with the fruit of Your Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). We ask that You would break down any walls of resentment, pride, or bitterness that may be standing between you. Help her to embrace the role you play in her family and to treat you with the honor and respect that You deserve as her elder.

Lord, we also lift up the marriage between your son and his wife. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and we pray that it would be strengthened in You. Ephesians 5:33 reminds us, "Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband." We ask that You would help your son to lead his family in a way that honors You, and that his wife would respond with a heart of submission and love, not only to him but to the family You have placed around them.

We rebuke any spirit of division, strife, or discord that may be at work in this family. Your Word declares in James 3:16, "For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed." We command these things to leave in the mighty name of Jesus. We pray for unity in this family, that they would be bound together by cords of love that cannot be broken (Colossians 3:14).

Father, we also want to encourage you to continue walking in love, even when it is not reciprocated. Romans 12:20-21 says, "Therefore if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head. Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Your kindness and patience may be the very thing that softens her heart over time. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9).

We also pray for wisdom for you, Lord. Show you how to navigate this relationship in a way that honors You. Help you to set healthy boundaries where needed, but also to extend grace and mercy as Christ has extended it to you. May your words and actions reflect the love of Christ, even when it is difficult.

Finally, we pray that this family would be a testimony to Your goodness and faithfulness. May they be a light in their community, showing the world what it looks like to love one another as You have loved us. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Continue to trust in the Lord, dear one. He sees your heart and your desire for peace and unity. Keep praying, keep loving, and keep trusting that God is at work, even when you cannot see it. His timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than our ways. May He bless you abundantly as you seek to honor Him in this situation.

We hear how painful this is, wanting to be loved and included in your own family and feeling kept at a distance. That kind of loneliness cuts deep, especially when it comes from someone you long to be close to.

We are praying with you for kindness to grow between you and your daughter in law, and for the Lord to comfort you in the waiting. We cannot change another person's heart, but we can steward our own response with grace while we keep asking God to work.

One gentle next step that often helps is to keep your relationship with her direct and low pressure, rather than asking others in the family to try to fix it for you. A brief, kind note or text that simply affirms her without asking for anything in return, or a small invitation that leaves her free to say yes or no, can keep a door open without adding strain. At the same time, keep nurturing your other connections so you are not carrying this ache alone.

It is also understandable if hurt lingers even as you choose to treat her as someone valuable to God. Deciding to release resentment and choosing kindness is one thing, the quiet healing of the emotions underneath often takes more time, and God is patient with you in both.

Father, we lift this dear mother and her daughter in law to You. You see the longing to be included and loved. Please bring comfort where there is loneliness, soften what has been hard, and give wisdom for each conversation and invitation. Help her to rest in Your nearness and to keep walking in love. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord and before His people, and we have heard your desire for kindness and love within your family with tender sympathy. It is a sore grief when those nearest to us seem distant, and when the heart longs to be included and loved and finds little response. The Lord knows this ache, and He hears the prayer of a wounded heart that seeks peace in the household.

We would first point you to that which alone can sustain you while you wait, even the marvelous loving kindness of God Himself. There is no word that so well sets forth His heart toward His own as loving kindness, and that kindness is marvelous indeed. It chose you before time began its cycles, it has pardoned all your iniquities, and it crowns you still with tender mercies. If you are in Christ, you are adopted into His family, made a daughter of the King of kings, and numbered among the whole family in heaven and earth which is one in the covenant and born of one Father. Whatever kindness is withheld by man, His loving kindness does not fail, and He satisfies your mouth with good things even in seasons of sorrow. Seek first to rest in that kindness, and to say with the psalmist, Lord, show Your marvelous loving kindness to me now in my experience, that I may rest in You.

We pray also with you for reconciliation, for our God is the God of Peace and according to the goodness of His nature He delights in love. He has prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. This is our comfort, that the change you long to see in another cannot be wrought by human power alone. The Lord says, I will put My Law in their inward parts and write it in their hearts. He alone can write His law in the heart, and He alone can turn the heart to kindness and to love. What you cannot do by persuasion or by striving, He can do by His Spirit working within.

Therefore we entreat the Lord for you both. We ask Him to show His marvelous loving kindness in your home, to soften hearts where there has been hardness, and to teach both you and your daughter in law to walk in that holy liberty where the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus makes us free from bitterness and coldness. May He help you to keep up daily fellowship with Christ in prayer, in praise, in searching the Word, and in submitting your heart to the work of the eternal Spirit, and as you walk with God you will find yourself calm. A Christian woman should not be afraid with any amazement either in adversity or in trial, but her holy patience should prove her faith. There is no speculation in believing God, no risk in trusting in Him.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who crowns Your people with loving kindness and tender mercies, look in mercy upon this daughter of Yours who longs for love and inclusion in her family. Comfort her with the assurance of Your own unfailing love, and let her know more deeply that she belongs to Your whole family in heaven and earth. We ask You to work graciously in the heart of her daughter in law, to write Your law of love within her, and to incline her to kindness, gentleness and tender regard. Grant to both the grace of reconciliation where it is needed, and teach them to bear with one another in love. Give to this dear one wisdom to speak and to act with grace, patience to wait upon You without fear, and faith to leave the outcome in Your wise and loving hands. Make Your marvelous loving kindness to be seen in this household, that all within it may be drawn nearer to Christ and to one another. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our peace and our reconciler. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your heartfelt request and we join you in prayer before our Lord who is the God of all reconciliation and peace.

It is a painful thing to feel distant from those who are nearest to us, and Scripture does not hide that such divisions can happen even within a family. The Lord Jesus Himself said that a daughter in law may be set against her mother in law, showing that strife among the dearest relations is part of our fallen condition. Yet His power is shown precisely in bringing peace where there was division and in teaching us to love one another.

We pray that God, who first reconciled us to Himself through the sacrifice of His Son when we were still enemies, would work reconciliation in your family. We ask Him to soften hearts on both sides, to give your daughter in law kindness and love toward you, and to give you grace, patience and strength to continue to show love even when it is not returned. For we owe love to one another as members of one body, and when love is present the whole body is held together.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we come to You through Jesus Christ alone, our only hope of salvation and our great High Priest who has made reconciliation for our sins. We lift up this mother and her daughter in law to You. We ask that You would fill both of their hearts with Your love, take away any bitterness or coldness, and teach them to be kind, gentle and forgiving toward one another. Help this mother to know she is seen and loved by You, and give her wisdom to speak and act with grace. Help her daughter in law to have eyes to see the value of this relationship and to include her with honor and affection in the life of the family. Make this home a place of peace that reflects Your love, and draw each member closer to Christ and to one another. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray and to walk in love, to speak with gentleness and to seek peace as far as it depends on you, trusting that God is at work even when change is slow.

It is painful to feel left out of your own family and to long for kindness and love that is not being returned. God sees that ache and He cares about both you and your daughter in law, and He invites you to bring this hurt honestly to Him in prayer.

There is a difference between trying to make someone love us by demand and seeing love grow as a work of God in the heart. The law can show us what love should look like, but it cannot create love inside a person. Only God can change a heart. That is why our hope is not in trying harder to earn affection or in requiring it from others, but in a new relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. When we have been forgiven and made His children by faith, He gives us a new life and calls us to live not by a list of rules but by a greater law, the law of love, in the power of His Spirit.

Scripture says that those who abide in Christ and let His words abide in them will bring forth much fruit, and that fruit is the evidence of that relationship with Him. One part of that fruit is love that continues to give even when it is not returned. In your own heart you may delight in what God says is good and right, and at the same time feel the struggle of hurt, disappointment and the temptation to become bitter. That inner conflict is real, and God understands it. He does not want you to live under condemnation or to be in bondage to resentment, but to be set free by His grace to walk in newness of life.

Grace is never permission to do wrong, and it does not mean that unkindness does not matter. God delights when His people love Him and love one another, and He calls us to meditate on His ways and to be like a tree planted by water, steady and fruitful in every season. Whatever He calls us to do prospers not because we force it, but because we trust Him.

So we pray for you and for your daughter in law together. We ask the Lord to soften her heart, to teach her to show kindness and to open her life to include you with genuine love. We also ask Him to guard your heart, to fill you with His love and patience, and to help you continue to show kindness even while you wait. We ask Him to bring healing where there is distance and to build a family marked by grace, forgiveness and the love of Christ.

Continue to abide in Jesus daily, to talk with Him, to delight in His word, and to trust Him to do what only He can do in both of your hearts. He is faithful to hear and to work in His time and His way.
