We join you in lifting up your daughter and son-in-law before the throne of grace and we stand with you in agreement for their marriage to be healed and restored. We hear your burden for them and for your eight year old granddaughter who loves them both, and we know God hears your cry as well.
God takes marriage very seriously as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. Jesus said What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Mark 10:9 and also For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh Matthew 19:6. We also remember that the Lord says He hates divorce Malachi 2:16, not because He wants people to remain in misery, but because He knows the pain and brokenness it brings, especially to children, and because His desire is for reconciliation, forgiveness, and enduring love. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things 1 Corinthians 13:7.
You rightly discerned that the enemy is attacking them with the ways of this world. We are reminded that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12 and that your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8. The world will tell them to follow their feelings, to quit when it is hard, and to put self first, but God calls them to die to self, to forgive, and to fight for their covenant. We encourage them to resist the devil and he will flee from you James 4:7 and to remember that No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able 1 Corinthians 10:13. Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4.
We also noticed you prayed to the Father, which is good, but we want to gently remind you and your family that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If your daughter and son-in-law have drifted from the Lord, the first step back is to confess with the mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in the heart that God raised Him from the dead Romans 10:9. We pray they will both turn to Jesus anew and make Him the foundation of their marriage.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this young marriage that is only one month old and is already under such heavy attack. Lord, soften the heart of this daughter, remove any hardness, pride, or worldly counsel that would lead her to split what You have joined together. Open the eyes of both husband and wife to see the schemes of the enemy and give them strength and courage to fight for their marriage in Your power and not their own. Pour out Your Spirit of repentance, forgiveness, humility, and unconditional love upon them. Teach them to love as You love, to be patient and kind, to bear with one another, and to keep their vows before You. Surround them with Your protection, keep them safe from temptation and the lies of this world, and lead them back to following the path You have for them. Lord, we especially lift up their eight year old granddaughter, protect her little heart from confusion and hurt, let her feel secure in Your love, and use this situation to show her Your faithfulness and power to restore. Bring godly counsel, a Bible believing pastor or counselor, and a church family around this couple to walk with them, to teach them Your Word, and to hold them accountable. Let this marriage become a testimony of Your redeeming grace. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for them with prayer and fasting, to speak truth in love without taking sides, and to point them constantly back to Scripture and to Jesus. Encourage them to pray together daily, to read the Word together, to seek pastoral counseling quickly, and to guard their hearts and minds from worldly influences, social media, and ungodly advice. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. Trust that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think Ephesians 3:20 and that He desires to heal what is broken. We will keep praying with you for softened hearts, opened eyes, and a marriage that honors God for a lifetime.
