We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your daughter, your granddaughter, and your family in this time of deep concern. Father God, we know that You see all things and that Your heart breaks for those ensnared by addiction. We ask that You would break the chains of bondage in her life and restore her to fullness in You. Your Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Lord, we pray that You would make a way of escape for her, that she would turn away from this path and run to You.
We also lift up your worries and fears as her mother. It is so painful to watch a child struggle, especially when you have poured so much love, prayer, and support into her life. We pray that You would comfort your heart and grant you peace that surpasses all understanding, as Philippians 4:6-7 promises: "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." Lord, we ask that You would guard this mother’s heart and fill her with Your peace, even in the midst of uncertainty.
We must also address the reality of what may be happening. If your daughter is indeed drinking again, this is a serious matter that requires both truth and grace. Proverbs 23:29-32 warns us of the dangers of alcohol: "Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine. Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper." Addiction is a spiritual battle, and we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell her she cannot overcome this. We declare that in the name of Jesus, she is set free from every chain of addiction, and we pray that she would surrender this struggle to Him.
We also want to speak to the regret you feel about the van. It is understandable to feel this way, especially if there is concern that it may be enabling her in her struggle. However, we encourage you to bring this before the Lord as well. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Lord, we pray that You would give this mother wisdom in how to handle this situation. If the van is being misused, we ask that You would reveal that and give her the strength to set boundaries that honor You and protect her granddaughter. But we also pray that You would use this gift as a tool for good, to help your granddaughter have stability and safety.
We must also lift up your granddaughter in this situation. Children are so deeply affected by the choices of their parents, and we pray that she would be shielded from any harm or instability. Psalm 127:3 reminds us, "Behold, children are a heritage of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is his reward." Lord, we ask that You would surround this little one with Your protection and provide godly influences in her life. We pray that she would grow up knowing Your love and that she would be a light in her mother’s life, drawing her back to You.
Finally, we want to encourage you to keep praying and standing in faith. Galatians 6:9 says, "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up." This is not the time to lose hope, but to press into the Lord even more. We pray that you would have the strength to keep loving your daughter unconditionally, even when it is hard, and that you would trust God to work in her life. We also encourage you to seek support from your church or a biblical counselor who can walk alongside you in this journey.
Heavenly Father, we come before You now, lifting up this family to You. We ask that You would intervene in this situation and bring healing, restoration, and freedom. We pray that Your Holy Spirit would convict your daughter’s heart and draw her back to You. We ask that You would give her the strength to resist temptation and the courage to seek help if she needs it. Lord, we also pray for this mother and father, that You would fill them with Your peace and wisdom as they navigate this difficult season. Protect their hearts from fear and anxiety, and help them to trust in Your perfect plan. We pray for the little granddaughter, that You would shield her from any harm and surround her with Your love. Father, we ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is power in His name to break every chain and set the captives free. We declare that Your will be done in this situation, and we trust You to work all things together for good. Amen.
