Prayer for my adult daughter with her health and decisions

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your daughter in earnest prayer. Father, we know that You see every struggle, every fear, and every decision she is facing. We ask that You would soften her heart and open her eyes to the path of healing and restoration You have for her. The Scriptures remind us in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Lord, we pray she would surrender her plans to You and seek Your wisdom above her own.
We rebuke the spirit of isolation and financial recklessness that may be influencing her decisions. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that she might have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that she is not alone, and we ask that You would draw her back to the safety and love of her family and, most importantly, to You. Help her to see that true healing comes from abiding in Your presence, not in further separation or worldly pursuits.
Father, we also lift up her physical and emotional health. If there are unseen burdens weighing on her, anxiety, depression, or unconfessed sin, we ask that You would bring them into the light. Psalm 147:3 says, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds." We pray for Your healing touch to rest upon her, both in body and soul. Give her the strength to turn away from habits or choices that are harming her and instead pursue the peace and wholeness found only in You.
We encourage you, as her parent, to continue speaking truth in love, even if she resists. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Though she is an adult, your prayers and godly influence still carry weight. Stand firm in faith, trusting that God is at work even when you cannot see it.
Lord, we also ask that You would provide divine opportunities for her to return home, not out of obligation, but out of a desire to seek You and be restored. Surround her with believers who will speak life into her situation and remind her of Your faithfulness. May she come to a place of repentance if she has strayed from Your will, and may she experience the freedom that comes from walking in obedience to You.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). May Your will be done in her life, and may she come to know You more deeply through this season. Amen.

We’ve heard this ache in your words, and we’re with you. Watching an adult child choose a path that seems to lead further into isolation and unwise decisions is its own kind of heavy. You’ve put your finger on something real: financial recklessness and a move away can be a way of numbing pain or avoiding the very things that could bring healing. For now, your daughter may not even see what you see, that spending and distance won’t fix what’s hurting inside, and that coming home could be a needed refuge rather than a step backward.
One insight we’ve seen bear fruit over the years is that decisions made in seasons of emotional overload are often more about escaping discomfort than moving toward anything good. So your prayer for a change of heart goes right to the root. While you can’t make the decision for her, you can do what you’re already doing: hold the door of love wide open without it feeling like a trap. Sometimes our adult children need to know home is a place of warmth, not a list of “I told you so’s.” If you haven’t already, you might consider telling her simply that you love her, you trust God with her life, and no mistake she makes will ever close your heart to her. Then leave the rest to her Maker.

The cry of a mother’s heart rises before the throne of grace, and it cannot be indifferent to the Lord who gave that heart its tenderness. Your daughter’s course is one we know too well, the restless seeking after a home elsewhere, the bleeding away of substance, the drawing of a shroud of solitude about her soul. Underneath all this there is a deeper malady. The understanding is darkened, the heart alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in it. She sees not her own helplessness, and therefore her sin remains. That deadness of heart, that unfeeling indifference, is the very stone that needs to be taken away.
There is but one Tree whose leaves are for the healing of the nations. A word of His, recognized as His and coming home to the heart, brings medicine to the head and the conscience, to desire and affection. What all your entreaties cannot do, that leaf, falling fresh from the pierced hand, can accomplish in a moment. Pray then without ceasing that the Spirit of God would take of the things of Christ and reveal them to her inmost soul. He alone can take away the stony heart and give a heart of flesh, living, warm, sensitive to the Divine love, and tender toward every holy thing.
Do not be dismayed if for a time the heavens seem brass. The promise stands sure: “I will give them a heart to know Me.” Plead that word before the mercy-seat. Tell the Lord that He has invited you to inquire of Him concerning this very thing, and He will do it. Let your faith rest not upon the working of providence, though we pray she may be brought home, but upon the blood of the Son and the sealing of the Spirit. When the heart is renewed, the feet will turn back to the Father’s house, and the hands will spend no more upon that which cannot satisfy.
In the meanwhile, let your own heart be perfumed with the love of God shed abroad in it by the Holy Ghost. A mother’s knowledge of her child is heart-knowledge, and so let your knowledge of your Lord be. Rest in Him, even while the sickness of your daughter’s soul afflicts you. He who healed the sick of the palsy spoke first of forgiveness, for pardon and healing are one. So it shall be for her. The sun of righteousness will arise with healing in His wings, and then the inhabitant shall not say, “I am sick.” A new heart will bring a right spirit, and the isolation will end, not in mere returning to an earthly home, but in communion with Jesus, whose heart is meek and lowly, and in whom is all your hope.
