We are joining you in prayer together as you wait and as your heart feels anxious and unsettled. We hear your desire for peace while you wait for this man to respond, and your honest prayer to be freed from overthinking and fear. God sees your heart and He cares deeply for you in this moment of uncertainty.
The Word reminds us how to bring this kind of anxiety to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. When we try to control what we cannot control, our thoughts can spiral, but when we trust Him, He guards our hearts. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Psalm 56:3 says When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Isaiah 41:10 says Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Whatever happens in this relationship, He is with you, He hears you, and He will uphold you.
We also want to encourage you to see this waiting time as an opportunity to seek God's will for your courtship. We believe that a relationship between a man and a woman is meant to be courtship with the goal of godly marriage to another Christian believer, a lifelong commitment that honors God, rather than simply dating without direction. We pray that you and this man would both be seeking to honor God first, and that your communication would be marked by honesty and grace. If this man is a fellow believer and you are both pursuing purity and the goal of marriage, then waiting with patience and kindness can be part of building trust. If you are not yet sure whether you share the same faith or the same commitment to purity and marriage, we encourage you to prayerfully consider that. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? And the will of God for those who are not yet married is clear, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor as taught in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. If there has been any compromise in this area, we gently urge you to repent and to pursue purity together, for God blesses that obedience. We also pray that fear and misunderstanding would not take root, but that you both would speak the truth in love and seek understanding.
We noticed your prayer was addressed to God but did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We are saved by believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and by confessing Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is in His name that we can come boldly before God and find peace that surpasses understanding, and we want to be sure you know that hope.
We now pray together for you.
Heavenly Father, we lift up our sister to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, calm her heart while she waits. Take away her anxiety, her overthinking, and the fear that something is wrong. Pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard her heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus. Watch over this man she cares for and guide his heart according to Your will. If everything between them is well, give her patience and quiet trust as she waits. If there is something she needs to know, give her strength to hear the truth with grace and wisdom to respond with love. Help them both to communicate with honesty, love, understanding and kindness, and do not let fear or misunderstanding come between them. Teach them to trust You instead of worrying about things they cannot control. Remind her that whatever happens, You are with her, You hear her heart, and You will work all things together for good for those who love You as promised in Romans 8:28. We pray that You would lead this relationship in the right direction, and if it is Your will, guide it toward a godly marriage that honors You in purity and faith. If it is not Your will, give her clarity and peace to follow Your path. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.
