Prayer for major & expensive corporate blunder

We are praying with you and we hear the weight of what you are carrying with this costly mistake at work and the desire for God's help and protection.

In times like this it is good to bring every practical need to the Lord and to ask for wisdom, for favor where it is right to ask, and for His power over every spiritual opposition. At the same time Scripture reminds us that our greatest need, in any crisis, is the forgiveness of sins and restored fellowship with God through Jesus Christ. Financial pressure, health needs and even a major corporate crisis are real, but they are secondary to having our sins forgiven and our conscience cleansed before God. Through Jesus, who died and rose again, the forgiveness of sins is preached to us, and apart from that forgiveness we cannot have peace with God.

The Bible teaches that forgiveness is a matter of the heart and spirit, not just counting or keeping score. Jesus pointed to a spirit of forgiveness that does not keep a tally, and He illustrated it with a king who forgave his servant an immeasurable debt. True forgiveness is complete. It is not saying I forgive you but I will still hold this against you. When God forgives, He blots out the transgression, He remembers it no more, and He justifies us so that we stand before Him as though we had never sinned. Isaiah says though sins are as scarlet they shall be as white as snow. David prayed, have mercy upon me, O God, according to your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions, and he found that forgiveness comes when we acknowledge our sin and confess it, not when we hide it, excuse it or justify ourselves. As long as we cover it, God cannot deal with it as He desires, but when we confess, He abundantly pardons.

That is why we want to pray not only for help with the consequences of this blunder, but for a heart that is willing to be honest before God and before others. If there is any part you own in what happened, bring it openly to the Lord. If others are involved, ask God to give you a willing heart to forgive as you have been forgiven, and to release bitterness. God commands this kind of forgiveness from the heart, and when we are willing He will give us the capacity to do it, even when it feels impossible. To pray, God give me a spirit of forgiveness and take away bitterness, is a prayer He answers when we truly want it. And receiving His complete forgiveness also frees us from lingering guilt that can drive us toward unhealthy patterns, because the happy person is the one whose sin is taken away and whose guilt is removed.

So we pray for you now that you would first know and rest in the cleansing and pardon that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, that you would confess what needs to be confessed and receive His total forgiveness. We pray for wisdom and integrity in how you handle every step ahead with your employer and coworkers, for grace to speak truthfully and to do what is right, for a forgiving spirit toward anyone else who shares responsibility, and for freedom from anxiety and self condemnation as you trust His unfailing love. We ask that God would provide for your needs, guide every decision, and use even this difficult situation to show His mercy and to draw you closer to Himself. We ask this in the name of Jesus, trusting His mercy and grace. Amen.
