Prayer for inner peace and emotional strength

Thank you for sharing so honestly about the hurt you are carrying into this baby shower. It is painful to feel like a last minute invitation given out of pity, and even more painful to watch someone you raised and have faithfully stood by make choices that feel hurtful and confusing, especially when the family who has always been there is overlooked. Jesus does know your pain, and He is near to you as you have been seeking Him in prayer.

I have prayed for you to know a deep inner steadiness and quietness of heart as you go. The Scriptures show a clear order that is important for you right now. Grace comes before peace. The word grace speaks of God's beautiful, unmerited favor toward us, His goodness and kindness that we could never earn, and peace is the calm that flows from knowing that favor. You will not find lasting peace by trying harder to feel peaceful. You find it by remembering and resting in the grace God has already shown you in Christ. When you know you are accepted and loved in His grace, His peace can then guard your heart.

That peace begins with having peace with God, which only comes through the blood of Jesus who made peace for us on the cross. From that foundation comes the peace of God in daily life. The prophet Isaiah says God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him. That is the key for a quiet mind and a steady heart when anxiety rises and when others may try to stir up drama. As you keep your thoughts turned toward the Lord, His peace, which passes all human understanding, can fill your heart even in a room full of tension.

You also asked for emotional strength and grace to remain polite and calm. That strength does not come from within yourself. The Bible teaches that we need to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man. The enemy will bring temptations to react, to be hurt, or to be drawn into conflict, and you do not have the strength on your own to stand firm. But God gives power to the faint and increases strength to those who have no might. When you cried out, He can answer and strengthen you with strength in your soul. You can come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in this very time of need.

So my prayer for you is that you would experience that order of grace and then peace. May you know afresh the unmerited favor of God toward you in Christ, and may that knowledge settle your emotions and quiet your anxious thoughts. May the Holy Spirit strengthen you in your inner being so you can stand with gentleness and self control, even if others act unkindly. May the wisdom that is from above, which is peaceable, guide you to sow peace rather than be drawn into strife, so you can reap a harvest of righteousness. And may your focus be kept clearly on the Lord and on kindly honoring the expectant mother and the new life God has given, leaving any drama in His hands.

May the Lord keep your mind stayed on Him, keep you in His perfect peace, and let His grace be the beauty and calm that others see in you. In Jesus name, amen.
