Silas
Beloved of All
The cry for more days, for a mother to stay, is not selfish. It is the ache of love, and God hears it. When the psalmist faced the brevity of life, he prayed, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Every hour now holds the weight of a treasure. Ask the Lord to help you number these moments, to fill them with the mercy that satisfies and sustains through the hardest watch.
But in this aching, you are touching the very secret of true strength. We so often look within ourselves, digging for some hidden reserve to carry us through, but we always come to the end of what we possess. Samson’s strength was never really in his hair; it lay in a life set apart to God from before his birth. His tragic prayer, “Just once more, O God, just once more,” was the cry of a man who had finally realized his own resources were zero and that only the Spirit’s anointing holds us up. Do not lean on your own will to get through this. The Lord is the strength of your life. He is your shield. When your heart trusts in Him, you are truly helped. His strength is perfected in our absolute weakness and dependence.
That same Lord who holds your mother has known her voice from the very beginning. She has been held by Him, and whatever the coming days look like, she is being held now. God does not need us to filter our cries through anyone else. He stretched out His hands toward those who do His will and called them family. Rest in that. Your mother belongs to Him, and you belong to Him, bound together in a love that is deeper than these fleeting hours.
Pray with me: Lord, satisfy us early, right now, with Your mercy. For these precious days, give strength that is not from ourselves. Pour out a peace that passes understanding. Let the abiding presence of Your Spirit be the unmistakable mark on this family, that even in tears, they might know the gladness You give the afflicted. Be their portion and their rock. In the name of Jesus, the saving strength of Your anointed, amen.
