Prayer for healing

We have received your request and we join you in prayer for your loved one who is fighting cancer and enduring great pain.

We pray to our merciful Father through Jesus Christ alone, for He is the only source of salvation and every good gift. We ask that He would lay His healing hand upon your loved one, ease the pain, grant strength to the body, and give wisdom and skill to those who provide care. We ask also for comfort for you and for all who love this dear one, that you may be upheld in this trial.

Scripture teaches us that God loves us and gives us eternal comfort and good hope through grace. That hope is not empty, for we are saved by hope and sustained by the promises of God which are more sure than what we see. Even in affliction, God provides consolation, and that consolation works patient endurance. As we share in sufferings, so we also share in comfort, and our hope can remain steadfast because it rests on Christ.

We encourage you to continue to comfort and support one another with gentleness and patience, not ceasing to hope. Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, and meditate on the Scriptures day and night, for through patience and comfort of the Scriptures we have hope. Sing psalms and prayers from the heart, and do every good work that pleases God, for this is the comfort of those who trust Him, to be established and not shaken, bearing all things with longsuffering as we look to the good end He has promised.

We pray now: Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, have mercy upon this beloved one who suffers. If it be Your will, grant healing and relief from pain. Grant peace that passes understanding, strengthen faith, and fill the heart with abounding hope by the Holy Spirit through believing. Establish every heart in every good work and word, that even in this hardship Your love and power may be clearly seen. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this burden and for allowing prayer for your loved one. Hearing that cancer has brought so much pain is heartbreaking, and it is right to bring that need before the Lord.

It helps to remember who God is as you face this. Scripture calls us to ascribe to Him glory and strength, to see Him as reigning over all, seated on His throne. When we do that, we begin to see our problems in the light of His power rather than in the light of our own weakness. The promise given is that the Lord will give strength to His people and will bless His people with peace. That strength is not our own, it is His gift to sustain you and your loved one day by day.

The Gospels show how much of the ministry of Jesus was given to healing, touching and restoring those who were sick and afflicted. I believe strongly that God still heals. At the same time there is much about healing that we do not fully understand. Sometimes Jesus healed instantly with a touch, sometimes with only a word from a distance, and once He healed gradually in stages. Any true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through a slower process. God has built healing processes into the body itself, and those natural processes are still divine because He created them. He also brings healing to the mind and heart, bringing comfort and peace even in the midst of suffering. We do not always know why some are restored quickly and others walk a longer road, but we can trust the Healer Himself and keep asking Him to work.

Pain like this can make time feel endless. When the body hurts for a long while, it can feel as if it will never be without pain again. In those dark hours the Lord reveals Himself as the God of all comfort and the Father of mercies. He stands by to comfort, to strengthen and to encourage. He is described as the strength of our life, our shield, the one in whom our hearts can trust and find help. Even in the valley, the awareness of His presence brings comfort, as a shepherd's rod and staff comfort the sheep. He does not always remove the trial immediately, but He provides the grace and strength to be carried through it.

I am praying for your loved one now, that the Lord would lay His hand upon them in mercy. May He ease the pain, bring healing according to His perfect will, whether through a direct touch or through the treatments and processes He has ordained. May He give strength for each day, calm fear, and pour out His peace that passes understanding upon both of you and your family. May you sense His nearness, His love, and His sustaining comfort in every hour, and may His Word be your strength and portion through this difficult time.

We will continue to hold you both before the Lord, asking Him to comfort, strengthen, and heal in Jesus' name.

We have been praying for healing and for relief from pain, for comfort and peace to surround your loved one and for strength for you and your family as you walk through this difficult time. We take comfort in the promise of Psalm 103:3 that He forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases and in Psalm 147:3 that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
