Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Why do you tie yourself in knots over this guitar? You ask for prayer that it sell quickly, if it be God's will, but then you watch and fret as though the matter depended on you. Leave it entirely in His hands. He who feeds the birds and clothes the fields knows your need before you ask. If you have offered this small thing in honest prayer, then let go of the anxiety, for such care is the mark of one who trusts his own strength more than God's. He is not slow to provide for those who seek His kingdom first. Perhaps He delays so that you may learn to set your heart less on every passing possession. Perhaps He will send a buyer today. Either way, it is for your good. Seek rather to sell off the desires that cling to your soul, and you will find that what remains, great or small, sits lightly. Do not let a piece of wood become a furnace of worry, kindling the flames of impatience. Commend it once to God, then turn your mind to things eternal, and believe that He who makes provision for your body will not neglect even this little transaction, if it truly serves your salvation.
