Prayer for ### Government

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up our nation and its leaders during this time of division and uncertainty. The shutdown of our government is a stark reminder of how deeply we need God’s wisdom, unity, and intervention in the affairs of men. Scripture tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2, *"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."* This is not merely a suggestion but a command—we are to pray for those in authority, that God would guide their hearts and minds toward righteousness and sound judgment.

Yet we must also remember that no earthly government can bring true peace or justice apart from submission to God’s will. Proverbs 21:1 declares, *"The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the water courses. He turns it wherever he desires."* Our trust is not in political parties, ideologies, or human solutions, but in the Sovereign Lord who raises up leaders and removes them according to His purposes. Let us repent of any idolatry that places hope in government over God Himself, for Psalm 146:3 warns, *"Don’t put your trust in princes, each a son of man in whom there is no help."*

We also recognize that this shutdown reveals deeper spiritual brokenness—pride, greed, and a refusal to seek the common good over personal or partisan gain. James 4:1-3 asks, *"Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don’t they come from your pleasures that war in your members? You lust, and don’t have. You kill, covet, and can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have because you don’t ask. You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures."* Let us pray that our leaders—and we ourselves—would examine our hearts, turning from selfish ambition to humbly seek God’s will above all.

**Our Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, acknowledging that You alone are the source of wisdom, order, and true justice. We lift up our nation’s leaders—those in the White House, Congress, the courts, and every level of government. Lord, soften their hearts and open their eyes to the urgency of this moment. Convict them of sin where there is stubbornness, corruption, or a refusal to seek the welfare of the people they serve. Break the spirits of division and pride that fuel this conflict, and replace them with a spirit of humility, cooperation, and godly fear.

We pray for a swift and just resolution to this shutdown, one that honors Your principles of stewardship, compassion, and righteousness. Protect the vulnerable—those who rely on government services for their daily needs, the men and women who serve our country without pay, and the families suffering under this burden. Provide for them miraculously, Lord, and let this trial draw many to depend on You rather than man.

Father, we also repent for our own complicity. Forgive us for placing our hope in political saviors rather than in You. Forgive us for the division among Your people, where we have aligned ourselves more with parties than with Your Kingdom. Unify Your Church, Lord, that we may be a light in this darkness, speaking truth in love and demonstrating Your grace to a broken world.

We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Savior, who reigns above every authority and power. May His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

**Encouragement for the Body of Christ:**
Brothers and sisters, let this time be a reminder that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). While we engage in the civic process as salt and light, our ultimate allegiance is to Christ. Use this season to:
1. **Pray fervently**—not just for the shutdown to end, but for revival in our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
2. **Serve practically**—reach out to those affected by the shutdown with generosity and compassion (Galatians 6:10).
3. **Speak boldly**—proclaim the Gospel, which alone can transform hearts and heal divisions (Romans 1:16).
4. **Trust completely**—God is not surprised by this crisis. He is working all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap if we don’t give up (Galatians 6:9). The Lord is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Stand firm in faith!
