Prayer For Divine Retribution

We hear the pain and anger in your request over the disrespect shown to your mother, and we understand your desire to defend her honor. Honoring our mothers is a holy command and close to the heart of God, as it is written Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Your love for your mother is right and good, and God sees both the hurt she has endured and the hurt you carry on her behalf.

Yet we must lovingly rebuke and correct the request for divine retribution and punishment upon the one who has wronged her. Scripture is clear that vengeance does not belong to us. We are commanded Romans 12:19 Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me. I will repay, says the Lord. And again 1 Peter 3:9 not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. To ask God to punish someone is to ask Him to act against His own call for us to seek mercy and repentance for sinners.

God is perfectly just and He will judge all wrongdoing in His perfect time and way, but He also desires mercy and repentance rather than destruction. Jesus teaches us Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. And we are reminded Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. If we hold onto bitterness and a desire for revenge, it takes root in our own hearts and harms us, as warned in Hebrews 12:15. The godly way to honor your mother is not to seek harm for another, but to show her love, to comfort her, to live in a way that brings her honor, and to entrust justice to the Lord while praying for the offender's conviction and repentance.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to God. Jesus said John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Scripture declares Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by the blood of Jesus that our own sins are forgiven, and it is in His name that our prayers are heard. If we have not received His forgiveness, we ourselves remain under judgment, so we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus, confess Him as Lord, and believe God raised Him from the dead, as promised Romans 10:9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We join together with you in prayer.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up this dear one who is hurting for their mother. Lord, You see the disrespect that was shown and You know the pain it has caused. We ask You to comfort this mother, to heal any wound in her heart, and to surround her with honor, love, and peace. We lift up the one who showed disrespect, and we do not ask for punishment upon them, but we ask for Your mercy and conviction. Bring them to repentance, open their eyes to the wrong they have done, and lead them to seek forgiveness from You and from this family. Soften their heart and draw them to Yourself. And Father, we pray for the one who submitted this request, release any spirit of anger, bitterness, or vengeance, and fill them with Your love, forgiveness, and peace. Help them to honor their mother by walking in forgiveness as You have forgiven us in Christ, and to trust Your perfect justice. Teach us all to overcome evil with good as taught in Romans 12:21. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Advocate, amen.

We hear how painful it was to watch your mother be disrespected. That kind of hurt cuts deep, and it makes sense you would feel protective of her and want to see things made right.

We have also seen how holding onto a desire to get even, even when the hurt is real, can become a heavy weight to carry. It can keep the offense replaying in our minds and harden our own hearts more than it changes the other person. Wanting justice is natural, but carrying bitterness tends to hurt the one carrying it most.

Forgiveness in the Christian life is often a process. There is a decision to release the need to seek revenge and to place justice in God's hands, and then there is the slower work of the heart finding peace over time. Choosing to release revenge does not mean what happened was okay or that boundaries are not needed. It simply frees you to heal while trusting God to handle what only He can rightly handle.

One gentle next step that may help is to set aside quiet time to tell God honestly how deeply this hurt you and your mother, and to ask Him to carry the justice part while you ask for wisdom for how to love and honor your mother well going forward. If the hurt keeps replaying, talking it through with a trusted pastor or counselor can also bring perspective.

Father, we lift this hurt to You. We ask for comfort and healing for this family, for wisdom to respond with grace and strength, and for peace to replace resentment in our friend's heart. Help them to rest in Your justice and Your care. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow over disrespect shown to your mother is not a light thing, and the honor you desire to see given to her is right in the sight of God, for He commands us to honor father and mother. Yet the way you ask to seek redress would lead your own soul into a harder place, and I cannot join you in praying for divine punishment upon another.

Scripture teaches us that vengeance belongs to the Lord and not to us to direct. As it is written, the day of vengeance is in His heart, and the year of His redeemed is come. That vengeance is His to govern in perfect justice and perfect wisdom, not ours to call down upon those who have grieved us. Our calling is of another kind.

You have been greatly provoked, but hear what our Lord Himself preached and practiced. He was much tried, yet He was never provoked to wrath. Both by friends and by enemies He was made to suffer, yet He neither accused the one nor the other to His great Father, and His dying prayer for His persecutors was, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. He loved His enemies. He lived for His enemies. He died for His enemies. And to us the word comes, Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you.

Brother, the most splendid vengeance you can ever have is to do good to them that do you evil, and to speak well of them that speak ill of you. This is the doctrine which Christ Himself preached, and therefore we ought both to preach and to practice it.

There is a better prayer to offer, and one which God delights to answer. There is forgiveness with Him, and that forgiveness is full and free, given in the most complete possible manner, for He keeps no back reckonings and retains no reserves of anger. He not only forgave us at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one. If such mercy has been shown to us, how shall we withhold it from others.

So let us pray not for punishment, but for grace. Let us ask the Lord to work repentance where there has been disrespect, to soften the heart that has caused this wound, to bring that one to see the sin and to seek forgiveness from God and from your mother. And let us ask the Lord to guard your own heart, that you may not be overcome by bitterness, but may be enabled to forgive even as you have been forgiven, and to overcome evil with good.

May the Lord, who is slow to anger and of great mercy, make you an instrument of peace in your own family, and may He bring healing where there has been dishonor, for His glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your concern for your mother and your desire to see her honored is right and good, for God Himself commands us to honor father and mother and has said that this is the first commandment with promise. It is painful to watch someone disrespect a parent, and it is natural to feel anger on her behalf.

Yet I cannot join you in praying for divine retribution or punishment upon this person as you have asked, and Scripture warns us against asking God for such vengeance. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will repay in His perfect justice and wisdom. Our calling is not to call down punishment on others, but to desire their repentance and restoration.

Christ teaches that when we judge others without mercy we set a stricter measure of judgment for ourselves. The measure we use for others will be used for us. To pray for harm to come to another, even one who has done wrong, is to hand ourselves over to that same severe judgment. What seems like zeal for justice can become a sin that brings no true pleasure but only further punishment and bitterness to our own soul.

God does threaten punishment both in this life and the life to come, but He does so not because He delights in destroying sinners, but so that fearing the danger they may become more gentle and turn from sin. He has established order and even earthly authorities as His ministers to restrain evil, yet His greater desire is that sinners practice virtue and be made ready to hear His teaching. His heart is for mercy, that all would come to repentance.

Instead of asking for punishment, let us pray in a way that seeks God’s will. We can pray that the person who disrespected your mother would see the seriousness of dishonoring a parent, be convicted by conscience, repent, and learn to show honor where honor is due. We can pray for your mother, that she would be comforted and strengthened and know she is valued. And we can pray for you, that God would guard your heart from anger and give you grace to correct with tenderness rather than with reviling, to admonish rather than to trample, and to forgive as you have been forgiven.

If you are willing, this is how we will pray for you: Father, give this person a heart that honors parents as You have commanded, bring repentance where there has been disrespect, bring healing to this family, and help all involved to walk in gentleness and love. Help the one who was hurt to release anger to You and to trust Your perfect justice and mercy.

If this wound is deep and ongoing, please also seek wise counsel from a pastor or trusted mature believer who can walk with you and help pursue peace and reconciliation in a godly way.
