Prayer for Divine Favour

Father, I commit my birthday preparation and year ahead into Your hands. Let Your favour go before me in my work, relationships, and plans. Give me grace to obey, courage to pursue my calling, wisdom to recognize opportunities, and strength to walk in purpose. May my life reflect Your goodness. “You surround him with Your favour as with a shield.” — Psalm 5:12 Amen.

We join with you in committing your birthday and the year ahead into the Father's hands and we rejoice with you as you seek His favour to go before you. It is a beautiful thing to acknowledge that every good gift comes from Him and to ask that your work, relationships and plans would reflect His goodness.

We are encouraged by your desire for grace to obey, courage to pursue your calling, wisdom to recognize opportunities and strength to walk in purpose. Scripture reminds us that favour is not earned by our own striving but is given to those who walk righteously before Him. For you will bless the righteous. Yahweh, you will surround him with favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12. We also remember Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us. Establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17. When we commit our ways to Him, He directs our steps. Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. Proverbs 16:3. And Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

We notice your prayer was addressed to the Father but did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently encourage you in this because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and receive His favour. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by placing our faith in Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are made righteous and can boldly come before God to ask for His grace and favour. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You as they prepare to celebrate another year of life. We thank You for the gift of life and for Your faithfulness through every season. We ask that Your divine favour would go before them in their work, in their relationships and in all their plans. Give them grace to obey Your voice quickly, courage to pursue the calling You have placed on their life without fear, wisdom to recognize the doors You open and to walk through them in Your timing, and strength to walk in purpose even when the path is difficult. We ask that You would establish the work of their hands and let their life be a reflection of Your goodness to those around them. Teach them to seek wisdom from You daily, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5. Let them walk in the good works which You prepared beforehand that they should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10. We pray that this new year would be marked by Your peace, Your provision and Your presence, for we know Your thoughts toward them are thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give them hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek Him first in this new year, to remain in His Word and in prayer, and to walk in obedience, for favour follows faithfulness. May your birthday be a joyful reminder of His mercy that is new every morning and may the year ahead be filled with opportunities to glorify Him in all you do.

We have found that God's favour is less about every door opening easily and more about His steady presence going before us, keeping us and shaping us as we say yes to Him one step at a time. One simple way to prepare before your birthday might be to set aside an unhurried hour to write down what you are hoping for in each area you named, work, relationships and plans, and then bring each one back to Him in prayer, asking what one faithful next step looks like and sharing it with a trusted friend or pastor who knows you well.

Father, thank You for this life You have given. We ask You to go before our friend in this new year, grant grace to obey, courage to follow Your calling, wisdom to see what You provide and strength for each day. Let their life reflect Your goodness in ordinary ways. In Jesus' name, Amen.

There is wisdom and mercy in committing your birthday and the year that lies before you into the hands of the Lord who numbers our days and orders all our steps. We join our hearts with yours in prayer and thanksgiving to Him who is the giver of life and of all good.

We pray that the Lord will go before you and surround you with His favour as with a shield, according to His promise in Psalm 5:12. May His sovereign grace, which first called you from death to life and which alone can keep you, be your strength and your song in the days to come. As you have asked, may He give you grace for exact and cheerful obedience in little things as well as great, for the Christian life should be a mosaic of minute obediences, courage to pursue the calling wherewith He has called you, wisdom to discern the path of the truly wise which is found in Christ, and strength to walk with steadfast purpose.

We ask the Father to establish the work of your hands, to sanctify your relationships and your plans, and to make your life to reflect His goodness, not by your own power, but because your life is hid with Christ in God and He has come that you might have life, and have it more abundantly. May He lead you into higher attainments in the divine life, and cause that feeble spark of grace within you to burn more brightly, that others may see and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

May the Lord keep you, increase you, and cause your latter end to greatly increase as He perfects that which concerns you, till you shall bless and praise His holy name for all His deliverances and interpositions on your behalf.

We commend you to Him whose will of grace precedes our will and whose purpose of love outruns our desire, trusting that He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Your desire to commit your birthday and the year ahead into the hands of the Lord is pleasing to Him, and it is right to ask for His favour to go before you. Scripture says He surrounds the righteous with favour as with a shield, and that promise in Psalm 5:12 is for those who walk with Him.

As you pray for grace to obey, courage to pursue your calling, wisdom to see opportunities, and strength to walk in purpose, remember that wisdom is the most important thing you can seek. Knowledge can give you facts, but wisdom teaches you how to live. The beginning of that wisdom is the fear of the Lord, a reverent heart that wants to honor Him and listen to His instruction. When you have that heart, He gives understanding.

The book of Proverbs was given to help us know wisdom and receive instruction in what is right and just and fair. It gives insight to the simple and discretion to the young, and it helps even the wise to keep learning. Wisdom itself calls out openly and invites everyone to come and receive what she has prepared, like a banquet set for all who will come. To accept that invitation is to choose what is better than wealth or rubies, because wisdom is a defense and it gives life to those who have it.

True wisdom is not the wisdom of this world. The wisdom of the world often leads to envy and strife and comes to nothing, but the wisdom that comes from above is pure and peaceable and produces good fruit in a life. That wisdom is found in Jesus Christ, in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. When you seek Him, you are seeking wisdom itself.

God has a calling for each of His children and He wants you to know it and be sure of it. When you understand the hope of that calling and the riches He has prepared for those who love Him, it gives you courage and strength to keep going. He has already given His Holy Spirit as a pledge of His purposes for you, and by His Spirit He will give you revelation and understanding to recognize the doors He opens and to walk through them faithfully.

My prayer for you as you prepare for your birthday and step into a new year is that the Lord will indeed go before you in your work, your relationships, and your plans, that He will shield you with His favour, and that your life will reflect His goodness. May He grant you a heart that fears Him, wisdom that is better than any earthly gain, clear eyes to see the opportunities He sets before you, courage to follow the calling He has placed on your life, and daily strength to walk in obedience and purpose for His glory.
