Your prayer for your son has been heard and we join you before the throne of grace to seek the Lord for his deliverance.
We know what it is to feel that we carry a burden within the heart and to fear that the stronghold will never be taken. Yet the word of God gives us sure ground. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe, and the Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble. He is good in all His acts of grace, and when He gave His Son, His only Son, to die to make atonement for our sin, was He not good then. That goodness still stands, and it is not a temporary camp but a fortification intended to stand from generation to generation.
We pray with you that your son may run into that strong tower by faith, for this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. We ask the Father in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation, that He would grant your son victory over fear, for fear is weakening and dishonors God when it keeps the soul from trusting His promise. The Lord says, Fear not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God. Fear not, thou worm Jacob, I will help thee, saith the Lord. We pray that perfect love, which casts out fear, may saturate his soul and spirit and mind and body, and that the Holy Spirit who first turns the eyes to Jesus and breathes spiritual life would fill him and strengthen him to stand.
We ask that every lying spirit and every stronghold that would hold him captive may be broken, not by our power, but by Him who has found a ransom. God has not only invented a way of deliverance, but He has found a ransom, and He has given His Son to bear the penalty of our iniquities. If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. As Israel was brought forth when the lamb was slain, so we pray that your son may know that deliverance is effectual because He brings them forth. He can do nothing of himself, and that is well, for then all the honor of deliverance must be of free grace only.
We pray that God would give him a new song, as those who after the victory were no longer disturbed by the archers and sat by the well and sang of the mighty acts of the Lord. We were frozen with fear, as dead men laid out for burial, when suddenly the Lord's face shone in upon us and all darkness was gone. May your son be able to say, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
Continue to come to the mercy seat, for if you are at the mercy seat, God is there too. He loves the mercy seat and He hears the cry of a parent for a child. We commit your son to Him who is able to keep that which we have committed unto Him, praying that he may be kept, delivered, and filled with the Spirit of Christ, to live to the praise of His grace. Amen.
