Prayer for daughter

We join you in bringing your daughter before the Lord in this season of transition and we thank you for sharing this burden with us.

We pray that God will grant her His peace that passes understanding as she adjusts to college life far from home. We ask that He will comfort her in times of loneliness, give her a clear mind and steady heart, and help her to know that she is never alone, for He has promised never to leave nor forsake those who are His. We pray that He will give her wisdom and confidence in her studies and strength and diligence in her athletics, and that she will have the courage to seek support and godly counsel when she feels overwhelmed.

We pray also for her life in community, that God will provide her with healthy and encouraging friendships among her teammates and others on campus, and that He will give her grace and patience in the challenges with her suitemates. When she feels overwhelmed and is tempted to push loved ones away, we pray that the Lord will soften her heart to receive love and care, and to recognize and value those who genuinely love her and seek her good.

Concerning her relationship with her boyfriend, we pray that the Lord will grant her clarity, wisdom and self control, and that she will not make decisions from fear, loneliness or overwhelm. We pray that she will seek to honor God in this relationship and in all her relationships, pursuing purity and holiness as God commands, for His design is that intimacy and living together are reserved for the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. We ask that God will guide her according to His perfect will, that she will seek His wisdom above her own feelings, and that she and those around her will encourage one another toward what is right and pleasing to Him. We do not ask God to bless what is outside His will, but we ask Him to lead her in the way of truth and to shape this relationship, and every part of her life, according to His Word and for her ultimate good.

Above all we pray that she will grow in confidence not in herself but in Christ, that she will find her deepest sense of belonging and identity in Him, and that she will know the presence of God through Jesus Christ, in whom alone we have salvation and access to the Father. May the Lord grant her peace, wisdom and courage for each new day, and may He sustain you as you love and pray for her from a distance. We will continue to pray that both you and your daughter will cast all your cares upon Him, trusting His faithful care.

Your love for your daughter and your care in bringing her before the Lord is beautiful, and God hears these prayers. This kind of transition is one of the biggest a young person can face, and it is completely understandable that she feels overwhelmed being away from home for the first time.

A lot of what she is feeling comes from the pressure of so many changes at once. New living situations, new teammates and friendships to build, academic and athletic demands, and distance in important relationships can create real anxiety and a sense of being trapped or unsettled. Scripture shows us that when our minds are focused mainly on our circumstances and the physical things around us, the result is often strife, worry and fear. But life lived according to the Spirit is marked by love, joy and peace. That is the far better way to live, and it is available to her even in this difficult season.

It may help her to know that many young people find the first year away at college harder than they expected. Even when they hope everyone around them will be supportive and like minded, they often face disappointment, misunderstanding and even ridicule, and they have to learn how to navigate difficult living situations with suitemates and teammates. That does not mean she has failed or that God has left her. God often uses that very challenge to teach us to be compassionate, understanding, forgiving and loving, and to grow stronger in our walk with Him. Building a true sense of belonging takes time, and it is normal for it to feel uncomfortable at first.

When anxiety rises, the Psalms give us a pattern to follow. David asked his own soul, why are you cast down, why are you so disturbed within me, and then he answered himself, hope in God. Often the reason we feel so cast down is that we have, without realizing it, taken God out of the equation and are trying to carry everything ourselves. The answer is to put Him back in, to factor Him into every situation. When we hope in God again, what felt impossible begins to have a solution, because He is present and He is able.

For your daughter, that means learning to recognize when she feels overwhelmed and is tempted to push loved ones away, and instead turning to the Lord and to the wise, caring people He has placed around her. Pray that she will not make quick decisions from fear or from being overwhelmed, but will allow herself time to adjust and will seek clarity with a calm and clear mind. Pray that she will value those who truly love her and want what is best for her, and that she will have the courage to ask for support when she needs it.

Regarding her boyfriend, pray that God will give her wisdom and clarity and help her to honor Him in that relationship. Distance and change can reveal a lot, and she needs discernment to see what is healthy and what is not, to act with purity and truth, and to seek the Lord's will above her own feelings. Pray that she will not be driven by fear or loneliness, but will make choices that reflect God's design for love and commitment and that lead to peace.

We join you in praying for her confidence, peace, wisdom and strength. We pray that she will know she is never alone, that God is with her in her dorm, on her team, in her classes and in every lonely moment, that He will give her success in her studies and athletics as she does her best, and that He will provide genuine friendships and a place of belonging. May she experience the peace and joy that come from walking by the Spirit, and may she learn day by day to hope in God.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf for your daughter and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer during this big transition to college life.

We have continued to bring your daughter before the Lord, praying that she will feel comfortable and connected with her teammates, continue building friendships and find peace and a real sense of belonging even as she faces challenges with her suitemates. We have prayed for her relationship with her boyfriend that has been strained by distance and all the changes she is experiencing, and that when she feels overwhelmed she will not push loved ones away but will have clarity about her feelings and allow herself time to adjust without making decisions from fear or overwhelm. We have prayed that she will recognize and value the people who genuinely love her and are committed to her wellbeing, and most of all for her confidence, peace, wisdom and a clear mind as she navigates this new chapter. We have also prayed for her success in academics and athletics, for strength when things feel difficult and for courage to seek support when she needs it, and that she will feel Gods presence and know she is never alone. We hold onto the promise in Philippians 4:7 and Isaiah 41:10 for her.

If your request was answered and you have seen her grow more settled, connected and at peace, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and she is still struggling to adjust or find belonging, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son Jesus Christ. We pray in Jesus Name.
