We join with you in lifting up your daughter before the Lord during this significant transition, and we thank you for bringing her needs before us so we can seek God's will together in Jesus' name.
We understand how deeply a move to college can shake a young woman's heart, especially when she is also an athlete carrying the pressures of academics, team life, and living with new suitemates. It is normal to feel overwhelmed and even homesick in this season, but we are reminded that God is near to her even there. We take comfort in His promise, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you, Deuteronomy 31:8, and, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go, Joshua 1:9. When she feels overwhelmed and tempted to push loved ones away, we pray she will instead lean into godly community, for scripture says Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ, Galatians 6:2, and Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor, Ecclesiastes 4:9. We pray she will have the courage to seek support when she needs it, to value those who genuinely love her and are committed to her well-being, and to find a Christ centered fellowship on campus where she can belong.
We also hear your concern for her friendships with teammates and the challenges with suitemates, and for her peace and sense of belonging. We pray the Lord will give her a clear mind and confidence not rooted in circumstances but in Him. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7. We pray she will experience the peace that surpasses understanding as she brings her anxieties to Him, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7, and You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you, Isaiah 26:3. For wisdom and clarity and for not making decisions from fear or overwhelm, we cling to If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5, and Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight, Proverbs 3:5-6. We pray for her success in academics and athletics as she does all for the glory of God, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23, while seeking first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, Matthew 6:33.
Concerning her relationship with her boyfriend, we want to speak with loving truth as scripture calls us to. We believe courtship is intended to be a purposeful season of discerning marriage to another Christian believer, not simply companionship or a relationship strained by distance and emotion. We pray this young man is a believer who loves the Lord, for Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14, and that their courtship would be marked by purity, wisdom, and a shared desire to honor God with an eye toward godly marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh, Genesis 2:24. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. If they are not equally yoked or if this relationship is not moving toward marriage that honors Christ, we pray she will have clarity to seek God's will rather than cling out of fear or loneliness. We must also gently and lovingly address that sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and is sin before God. Flee sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:18. We pray she will guard her heart and body as the temple of the Holy Spirit, keep clear boundaries, and pursue purity, trusting that God's design for intimacy within marriage is for her protection and joy. We pray for clarity about her feelings and for the strength to allow herself time to adjust without making hasty decisions about this courtship.
We noticed your request speaks of God's presence, which we affirm, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and assurance that we are never alone. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If your daughter has not yet placed her personal trust in Jesus Christ, we pray she will do so, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is through His name we can come boldly to the throne of grace and know He will never leave us nor forsake us, Hebrews 13:5.
We pray together now for her. Father, we lift this precious daughter to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We ask You to surround her with Your presence on that campus, to let her know in the lonely and overwhelming moments that You are with her and she is never alone. Grant her peace that guards her heart and mind, wisdom for every decision, confidence rooted in who she is in Christ, and a clear, sound mind free from fear. Comfort her when she is homesick, strengthen her when things feel difficult, and help her not to push loved ones away but to receive love and support with humility and grace. We ask You to provide deep, godly friendships among her teammates and to bring reconciliation or grace in the challenges with her suitemates. Give her favor and diligence in her studies and strength and discipline in her athletics, and help her to keep You first in all things. For her courtship, we ask for purity, discernment, and honesty. If this young man is the godly husband You have for her, draw them closer to You and to a Christ honoring marriage, and if not, give her courage and clarity to step back and trust Your better plan. Protect her from fornication and every temptation that comes with distance, loneliness, and pressure, and lead her to a strong community of believers who will encourage her walk with You. Above all, draw her heart to Jesus, that she would know Him as Savior and Lord, find her belonging in Him, and walk in the hope that You work all things together for good for those who love You, Romans 8:28. We entrust her into Your loving hands, asking all these things in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
