The battle you describe is real, and the enemy does seek to tear apart what God has joined together, especially when young children are caught in the turmoil. It is right to ask for a hedge of protection, not just around bodies but around hearts and minds. Scripture shows us that the Word of God hidden in our hearts becomes a defense against every attack. When we cling to His promises and walk in His ways, He acts as a buckler to those who walk uprightly; He preserves the path of His saints. Pray that your son and daughter-in-law will not just know about God’s commands but will bind them on their fingers and write them on the tablets of their hearts, because His instructions are always for our good.
Peace and love will flow when they both turn their ears toward true wisdom. This is not the clever reasoning of the world, which always leads to strife and comes to nothing, but the wisdom that comes from above. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. When we listen to Him, we are listening to wisdom itself. That wisdom is first pure, then peaceable. It leads straight into a life of peace rather than conflict. But a person cannot know real peace until they have experienced the grace of God. Pray that they will find that grace, and in finding it, they will discover a peace that settles their hearts and pours out into every harsh word and wounded silence.
The matter of pride is one of the enemy’s oldest snares, because pride says, “I will have my way,” and that fractures the oneness God desires. The fear of the Lord is the starting place of wisdom, and the fear of the Lord is to hate evil, and that includes the evil of a stiff-necked pride. When they learn to prefer wisdom over being right in their own eyes, they will find something more precious than rubies. For the husband to love as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it, and for the wife to submit in that kind of love, pride must be laid down. Ask the Lord to give them an understanding heart, because wisdom makes its invitation clear: forsake foolish pride and live, and go in the way of understanding.
As you pray, remember that the enemy’s strategies wither when confronted with the foolishness of preaching the gospel. Their true enemy is not one another. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Pray that they lock arms against the real adversary by making peace and sowing in peace, for those who sow in peace will reap a harvest of righteousness. The wisdom from above will fill their home with length of days and pleasantness and, in her left hand, the quiet riches of honor that the world cannot give. Keep crying out for them, and trust that He who stores up sound wisdom for the righteous will guard that little family and let His peace rest upon those two baby girls.
