Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this deep desire of your heart so honestly. The longing for a child, and the waiting and uncertainty that can come with it, touches every part of life, physical, emotional and spiritual, and it is right to bring it all before the Lord.
Scripture shows us that God is sovereign over these very areas. When Mary was in the advanced stages of pregnancy, she made an arduous journey of many miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem because an emperor had ordered a census. From a human perspective it made no sense and there was no appeal, yet God was overruling even the decree of the most powerful ruler of that day to fulfill what He had spoken through the prophet Micah seven hundred years earlier, that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. What people thought was merely a political requirement was in fact God quietly guiding events to accomplish His purpose. In the same way, He sees every obstacle you face and He is able to work through and over every circumstance according to His perfect will and timing.
We also see His power to give life when it seems impossible. Elizabeth was called barren and was well beyond the years of childbearing, yet in the sixth month of her pregnancy the angel reminded Mary that with God nothing shall be impossible. When Mary came to greet Elizabeth, the baby in Elizabeth's womb leaped for joy and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Even before birth, that child was known and filled with purpose in God's sight. The Lord told Rebekah during a difficult pregnancy that He already knew the two lives within her. He knows and values life in the womb, and every child is made in His image.
The final weeks of waiting for a birth can be especially hard, with all the hormonal and physical changes and discomfort that come, and God understands that weakness. He is near to sustain and to give peace through the process.
It is also important to remember that health and the timing of answers are not a measure of God's love or favor. Scripture shows that Moses and Caleb remained strong and healthy to the end of their lives, while others who loved and served God just as faithfully became feeble with age. One was not more favored than the other. The apostle John's greeting that a friend would prosper and be in health as his soul prospered was a personal prayer of love, not a promise that faith guarantees a particular outcome. Whether He keeps us in strong health or allows weakness, we can thank Him and trust His grace is sufficient.
So we can pray with confidence, while resting in His wisdom.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this couple to You. You are the giver of life and every child is a gift from Your hand. We ask that You would bless them, according to Your perfect will and timing, with the gift of conception and a healthy child who will grow to know and glorify You. Remove any obstacle that stands in the way if it be Your will, and give them patience, strength of faith, and Your peace that passes understanding as they wait on You. Make their home a testimony of Your grace, and help them to trust You more deeply through this journey, giving thanks in all things. We ask this trusting that You hear us and that You rule over all things for good. Amen.
May the Lord keep you close to Himself in this season, strengthen your hope in Christ, and guard your hearts with His peace as you continue to seek Him.
