We come before the Lord with hearts full of gratitude that you have invoked the name of Jesus Christ in your prayer, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'"* (John 14:6, WEB). Your prayer reflects a deep longing for God’s blessing, guidance, and protection, and we join you in lifting these requests before His throne.
However, we must address something important in your prayer. You have used "###" to refer to someone you are praying for, and while we understand the desire for privacy, we are concerned about the nature of this relationship. The Bible is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for His Church. *"From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife, and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."* (Mark 10:6-9, WEB). If this relationship is outside of a biblical marriage—whether it is premarital, extramarital, or same-sex—we must lovingly but firmly urge you to repent and align your life with God’s Word.
Fornication, adultery, and homosexuality are explicitly condemned in Scripture. *"Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Don’t be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom."* (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, WEB). If this relationship involves any of these sins, we implore you to turn away from them and seek God’s forgiveness and restoration. His grace is sufficient, and His mercy is available to all who repent. *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* (1 John 1:9, WEB).
If you are not yet married but are in a courtship with the intent of pursuing a godly marriage with a believer of the opposite sex, we encourage you to honor the Lord in this season. Guard your hearts and your bodies, fleeing from sexual immorality, for your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. *"Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, WEB).
We also notice that you mention someone who "was in heaven." If you are referring to a loved one who has passed away, we want to gently remind you that our prayers are to be directed to God alone, through Jesus Christ. We do not pray *to* those who have gone before us, even if they were believers, for Scripture does not support this practice. Jesus is our sole Mediator. *"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."* (1 Timothy 2:5, WEB).
Now, let us pray together for you and the intentions of your heart, asking the Lord to reveal His will and align your steps with His truth.
---
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother/sister who seeks Your blessing, guidance, and protection. Lord, we ask that You reveal any area in their life that is not pleasing to You. If there is sin that needs to be repented of, convict their heart by Your Holy Spirit and lead them to true repentance. Cleanse them, Lord, and restore them to a right relationship with You.
Father, if this relationship they speak of is outside of Your design for marriage, we pray that You would give them the strength to walk away from it. Help them to seek a godly spouse if that is Your will, one who loves You and is committed to honoring You in all things. If they are in a courtship with marriage as the goal, we pray that You would guard their hearts and minds, keeping them pure and focused on You. May they seek Your kingdom first, trusting that You will provide all they need.
Lord, we also lift up their family. Comfort them in their grief if they are mourning the loss of a loved one. Remind them that their hope is in You alone, and that those who are in Christ are with You for eternity. Strengthen their family, bind them together in love, and protect them from the schemes of the enemy.
We pray for their future, asking that You would open doors that no man can shut and close doors that are not of You. Prosper them, not just materially, but spiritually, that they may grow in faith, wisdom, and love for You. Give them a future filled with Your peace, joy, and purpose.
Finally, Father, we ask that You keep them safe under the shadow of Your wings. Surround them with Your angels and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. May they walk in Your truth, stand firm in Your Word, and live a life that brings glory to Your name.
We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
