There is a blessedness in resting the whole matter in the hands of Him who orders all things after the counsel of His own will. To desire a door to open for an extended stay and the means of lawful labor is no small thing, yet our God delights to give His children the desires of their hearts when those desires are shaped by His word and submitted to His wisdom. You have asked for prayer, and you shall have it; but remember that the Lord’s answers often travel by routes we did not foresee.
You speak of procedures and permits. I would not have you cease from careful diligence, for faith is never the excuse for sloth. Let every document be prepared, every lawful step taken, and let your conduct commend the gospel you profess. But while you work, look beyond the arm of flesh. The King’s heart is in the Lord’s hand, and the wheels of government are turned by an invisible finger. He that thrust out the enemies before Israel can clear your path through a labyrinth of official requirements. What is a work permit to the God who divided the sea? Only wait upon Him with prayerful importunity, and let not your heart be troubled if the answer seems to tarry.
Yet I must press a deeper matter upon your soul. The favor you crave for your earthly circumstances is but a small token compared with the favor already shown you in Christ Jesus. If you are His, then all things are yours, whether the extended stay comes or the door closes. He who spared not His own Son will with Him freely give you all that is needful. Do not fix your hopes upon a permanent place in any earthly city, for here we have no continuing city. Seek first the kingdom, and these things shall be added. Is it a financial opportunity you have in view? Very well, but let the opportunity be one in which you can adorn the doctrine of God your Savior, and count all but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ.
Bear in mind that seasons of waiting are often God’s ploughing times, when the soil of the heart is broken up that it may receive the seed of greater blessing. Your extremity has always been His opportunity. When a man reaches the end of himself, he has reached the beginning of God’s working. Lean hard upon that invisible arm, though the carnal mind account it as little worth. In the silence of the night, when sleep forsakes you, knock again at heaven’s gate. He who arose to give the loaves because of importunity will not send you empty away.
I commend you to the Divine Sovereignty, which is the sweetest comfort to a believer. He chooses our inheritance for us, and His choices are always better than our own. If He grants the extension, praise Him. If He denies it, trust that He has a better purpose, perhaps a work in the heart or a service elsewhere that you cannot yet discern. The Divine Presence is the one hope of the people of God; if you have that, you may go anywhere and lack no good thing. May the Lord bless you in all you do, and may your life be a sweet savor of Christ wherever you sojourn.
