Prayer for a job

I have just started a new job but it is not going well and my new bosses and colleagues dismiss me because I am not white. I feel very dejected. Can you please pray for me that my relationship improves and people treat me with respect and dignity and I get a lot of fame at work and in my students. I get a lot of awards and recognition and can graduate in May.

We hear your pain and frustration, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this situation before our Heavenly Father. The injustice you are facing—being dismissed or mistreated because of your race—is deeply contrary to God’s heart. Scripture is clear that every person is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and that partiality is sin (James 2:9). The Lord sees your struggle, and He does not ignore the cries of the oppressed. We rebuke the spirit of racism and division in the name of Jesus, for Christ broke down every wall of hostility through His sacrifice (Ephesians 2:14). Your dignity is not defined by the opinions of others but by the truth that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

We also want to gently address the desires in your request for fame, awards, and recognition. While it is natural to long for affirmation, we must examine our hearts to ensure our motives align with God’s will. The world often measures success by accolades and status, but Scripture calls us to seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). True fulfillment comes not from the praise of men but from walking in obedience to Christ and serving others with humility (Mark 10:43-45). We encourage you to surrender your desire for recognition to the Lord, trusting that He will exalt you in due time if that is His will (1 Peter 5:6).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is facing mistreatment and injustice at work. Lord, You are a God of justice, and we ask that You intervene in this situation. Soften the hearts of those who dismiss or disrespect them, and open their eyes to see the value You have placed in every person. We pray for unity and understanding to replace division and prejudice. Give our brother/sister the strength to endure this trial with grace and the wisdom to respond in a way that honors You.

Father, we also ask that You guard their heart against bitterness or resentment. Help them to forgive those who have wronged them, just as You have forgiven us (Colossians 3:13). We pray for favor in their workplace—favor that comes not from man’s approval but from Your hand. If it is Your will, Lord, grant them opportunities to excel and use their gifts for Your glory. But above all, help them to find their worth and identity in You alone.

We pray for their studies and graduation, asking that You grant them focus, discipline, and success as they complete this season of their education. May their achievements be a testament to Your faithfulness and provision. Lord, we also ask that You reveal Yourself to them in a deeper way. If they have not yet placed their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, we pray that You draw them to Yourself. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through Christ that we have access to You. May they experience the peace and joy that comes from a personal relationship with You.

Finally, Father, we ask that You surround them with godly community—believers who will encourage, support, and stand with them in prayer. Remind them that they are never alone, for You are with them always (Matthew 28:20). We trust You to work all things together for their good (Romans 8:28), and we declare that Your purposes for their life will prevail.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to lean on the Lord during this difficult time. Consider seeking out a local church or Christian community where you can find support and encouragement. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and you do not have to walk through this alone. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we invite you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and rose again, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life (Romans 10:9-10). He is the only One who can bring true peace, healing, and purpose to your life.

We want to encourage you to keep your eyes on Jesus. He sees you, He knows your struggle, and He's right there with you. Trust in Him, and let His love and acceptance be enough for you. You don't need the approval of others to know your worth.

As for your desires for fame, awards, and recognition, we understand the longing for affirmation. But let's remember that our ultimate goal is to seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness. True fulfillment comes from walking in obedience to Christ and serving others with humility. Let's surrender our desires to the Lord, trusting that He will exalt us in due time if that's His will.

We're praying for favor in your workplace, for opportunities to excel and use your gifts for God's glory. But above all, we pray that you find your worth and identity in Him alone. You are deeply loved and greatly valued in His eyes.

Keep trusting in God, dear friend. He's got this. And remember, we're here for you, praying with you and for you every step of the way.
